It's hard to get excited about this...
...when NHL Deputy Comissioner Bill Daly says there was "no progress" during today's meeting between the NHL and NHLPA on the definition of hockey related revenue and things aren't "overly encouraging." He then added this for good measure (via Pro Hockey Talk)...
“Unless [the players] show some willingness to compromise, I don’t know how we get this done.”
To which NHLPA Executive Director Donald Fehr responded (via ESPN)...
"One of the things I think that everybody needs to understand is that the definition of 'no progress' that comes out of the NHL offices seems to be 'they didn't give us what they want yet. Progress is giving them what they want. It's not finding a way to come to a mutually-acceptable understanding."
While Fehr is expected to speak with Gary Bettman on the phone tonight, no further meetings have been planned.
....becoming difficult to stay positive when these guys aren't even in the same ballpark when it comes to hockey related revenue.
Daly: Loss of preseason has cost us $100 million. No plans to announce postponent of season openers today, though— Steve Zipay (@stevezipay) October 2, 2012
Ok, back to some fun stuff. Here's interviews of Marek Hrivik and Christian Thomas from today's scrimmage (via Blueshirts United)...
You know what? I'm excited about it.
At this point I'm saying fuck the NHL, NHLPA and the Owners.
Your quote (not a jab at you, it's the circumstance's fault) "....becoming difficult to stay positive when these guys aren't even in the same ballpark when it comes to hockey related revenue." is a broken record response to their b.s.
Coming from someone who plays in a few different beer leagues, I'm in awe of the insane pace at which these guys can play the game, AHLers and up-and-comers.
And because of the Rangers connection I'm going to become a Whale fan by streaming their games. The New Era store in NoHo has a few rad Whale hats, if I can get Kreider Whale gear I will.
@_Jack How do you stream the Whale games? Watching Krieder play would help ease the hockey withdrawal for sure. Didn't MSG pick up a bunch of Hartford games during the cancelled season?
