Richards to Re-Evaluate Playing Overseas After New Year

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

Pat Leonard at the Daily News spoke with Brad Richards about the possibility of him playing overseas if the lockout continues to drag on...

“(You have) the thought, but I’m here until someone tells me – at least until the New Year, maybe I’ll re-evaluate that – until someone tells me there’s no NHL this year. I’d like to think I’m gonna be here, but as time goes you do start to think about it more because you want to play. That’s what we do.”

...Richards & Lundqvist have been very vocal about their desire to not play elsewhere until it was absolutely necessary. And it looks like that time might be upon them very soon.

Richards played seven games with Russian club Kazan Ak-Bars during the 2004-05 lockout.

I appreciate his commitment to staying in NY until there's a definitive answer about this season...but at this point with everything that has transpired, I would not blame him for cutting bait & bailing just to get some ice time.
