After a slow start to the season with his new team, the Saskatoon Blades of the WHL, Shane McColgan has picked up his production and is now averaging over a point per game, with 23 in 21 games so far this season. Last night he scored what is surely his best goal of the season against the Vancouver Giants.
The quality isn't exactly HD and the play is very fast, so if you're having trouble following exactly what happened I'll summarize it for you. McColgan reached his stick back to receive a pass in the left faceoff circle, then put the puck between his legs, kicked it back to his stick in the slot, and put the puck in the net. Definitely a highlight reel goal and a move that Pavel Bure or Patrick Kane would be proud of.
If the Rangers don't sign McColgan to an NHL contract in the upcoming summer then they lose his rights for good. So this is, by definition, a make or break year for McColgan. If he scores more goals like this one then his chances of sticking are significantly higher.
