Torts: I Love Our Jam, I Love Our Balls
John Tortorella talks about his Rangers team after the game...
"I love our jam. I love our balls. I really like what we have here. I don’t think it will be the same. There’s always changes. But what they have—what our group has developed in their identity, their mindset, I think showed tonight."
...this quote really has me fired up for next season. The groundwork has been laid, now with more skilled players coming in next season (Kreider, Erixon and hopefully Parise), I think you'll see Torts open up the offense a little bit and hopefully get away from the strictly defensive system he ran this season.
...with how much energy and commitment it takes to block shots and forecheck as hard as this year's team did, I'm not sure it would be feasible to think this group of players could put forth that kind of effort every season. They'd have to be Superman. Although after watching McDonagh all season, I'm convinced he's from Krypton. For this team to have success going forward I think it's imperative that they change to a more offensive oriented game plan.
...i criticized Torts a good amount during the postseason, but for him to get this team to within two wins of the Stanley Cup Finals is very impressive and should be praised. Hands down my Jack Adams Award winner.
