Four Games Four Bad Starts
Dave Lozo at NHL.com has this quote from Ryan Callahan on another slow start by the Rangers last night...
"Like I said earlier, it's our start. We have to be ready right from the beginning of the game, from our execution level to our work ethic. (Lundqvist) has been there for us in the first period to keep us in some games. It's not acceptable. We have to have better firsts."
Marc Staal adds...
"He's kept us in it early when we haven't been ready at the start," Staal said of Lundqvist. "We were able to regroup and get back in it, but tonight they hurt us with two (goals). I thought we were getting back in the game and playing well, then it was too little, too late."
...i don't think it's a stretch to say that the Rangers have been outplayed in 10 of the 12 periods in this series, so to me it's much more than just their starts. Rangers should thank their lucky stars (aka Lundqvist) that this series is even tied up at this point.
...it is baffling to me that the Rangers can come out so flat in games of this magnitude. I usually blame the coach for not getting a team motivated to play, but at some point the players need to take it upon themselves to be mentally prepared. How can they not be fired up? It's the Conference Finals for God sake!
