This Is What Happens When You Mess With the Rangers

Not everyone is a fan of the way last night's game began. I am not one of those people. The momentum given to the Rangers from the brawl was absolutely tangible and could have just catapulted the Blueshirts to great things.

So if any other coach thinks they can come into MSG and push the Rangers around, go for it. The Blueshirts have more than enough able and willing participants that are just waiting to hand out beatdowns to all on-comers.

Here's a little recap of last night's events:

For some reason Devils coach Peter DeBoer felt he needed to send a message by putting out a line of Jansen-Carter-Boulton to start the game, which Torts was none too happy about...

So he sent out his wrecking crew which included Stu Bickel taking the face-off which obviously turned into this...

brawltime
And ultimately lead to Carter's bloodied face pictured above, which was caused by this...

Meanwhile post game, Tortorella refused to take the bait stating he was just coaching his team and he was happy with the way they responded. He did admit that the brawl gave the team some juice.

However, DeBoer felt he needed to respond to Tortorella barking at him during the game (via ESPN NY)...

"I guess in John's world you can come into our building and start your tough guys, but we can't do the same here," DeBoer said referring to the December 20th match-up in Newark that started with a Rupp/Jansen fight. "He's either got short-term memory loss or he's a hypocrite."

Henrik Lundqvist added this on Tortorella's feeling about DeBoer's starting line-up (via ESPN NY)...

"I can say he was not happy with their starting lineup. He got us going pretty good in here. Then we went out for the face-off, and it was a good feeling. We got the group together and I think everybody was ready to go."

...man I wish HBO 24/7 was there for this one. Would have loved to have heard what Torts said to the team after getting the Devils starting line-up.

...last night couldn't have gone anymore perfectly for the Rangers. Not only did they get a much needed two points, but it felt like they got their swagger back. Hard hitting, tough forechecking. I enjoyed every minute of that game.

Why did Salvador get a 10 minute misconduct and not a game misconduct for 3rd man in on the Bickel fight?

@TheNYRBlog This guy Deboar just got what he asked for. Big time A-Hole. What happens if Torts left his skill players on the ice?

@IcyCup He's the only play-by-play guy I've heard that can actually put you to sleep during a bitter rivalry game.  I don't know why he gets such praise, he's awful!

After (I think the third rangers goal) when the camera started shaking from what at the time I thought was an earthquake of epic scale, I would have traded anything to be there. I wonder if bruce foodreau would have said the garden is quiet?

Best game I've been to all season. I thought the damn roof was gonna come off during that fight. And after the first goal, the Mar-ty chants were deafening. Just awesome all the way around.

It was an epic vibe! One of the best I've had at MSG in a long time. You couldn't even hear the "Goal song" after that first point - everyone was going bananas!

@TheNYRBlog DeBoer's a clown. In his world, it's acceptable to send out Boulton against Gaborik after we score.
