Rangers 4, Hurricanes 2

The New York Rangers (44-18-7) defeated the Carolina Hurricanes (26-29-15) by the score of 4-2, tonight. For a boxscore and recap go to Yahoo! Sports.

...when your team is going through a rough patch you look to your top players to get you out of it and that's exactly what's happened the last two games. Rangers got to be feeling real good going into their crucial match-up against Pens on Thursday.

...someone check the tabloids because Olivia Munn has obviously taken Richards back.

...it took until March, but Richards and Gaborik finally have the chemistry we were all hoping for (yes even me) this past off-season.

...and the guy most responsible for that chemistry is Hagelin who has just taken over the last two games.

...nice role reversal by Biron tonight, who has been putting the Rangers behind the eight ball lately with some shoddy first period goaltending, but tonight he kept the Rangers in it early.

...Zuccarello isn't going to stick around long if he's going to take bad penalties like that. Completely changed the momentum of the game at the time.

...love that Stralman has the hip check in his repertoire. Don't see that too often in the NHL these days.

...Uncle Junior!!!!!!

...power play sucks again.

...Boyle and Fedotenko were shot blocking monsters.

...nice to see the struggling Girardi with a +2.

...tough game for Stepan with a terrible giveaway and just 12:58 of ice time.

...if I told you before the game that a Ranger defenseman's line tonight was going to be +2, 2 shots on goal, 1 blocked shot and 3 hits in 21:54 of ice time I bet you wouldn't have guessed Bickel.

...off tomorrow than huge game against Penguins.

The boys are clickin'! Love that you acknowledged Stralman's nasty hip check, he's laid down a few real nice ones this year... nothing beats a good old fashioned hip check!

Zuccarellos penalty was absurd. It was a battle in the corners and a lame penalty call. If you ask me, the first goal was just bad defense. The 2nd goal, we were caught deep and Dubi tried to make a blind side pass which gave a 2-1 for Carolina. 3-2... sloppy play up front had little to do with Zuccarello... I believe in this little guy, rather have him than John Scott anyday.

@MarkFox I agree.  Scott and Rupp are soooooo slow with the puck.  They can only score if they are in the right place at the right time.  There was one play last night in the third period that Rupp ended up with the puck in the left offensive face off circle.  He was all alone.  He couldn't even turn with the puck and skate to the net to get off a shot.  I checked to see if he was actually wearing skates.  I know he plays a role but this team needs guys who don't play on the top line who can generate offense.

@Dminches  @MarkFox Rupp is very smart when he has the puck. He may lack in speed...by a lot...but he's not a liability when he's on the ice. More players help on this team than hurt. Rupp is a fourth liner, we all know this. He fights more than scores. This is why we got him. To take the weight from Prust (although Prust seems to have an addiction with fighting). If he provides for us offensively, that's great. But he's there to protect. It's not his fault that we don't have much secondary scoring. Outside of Gabby, Cally, and Richards, we only have three other guys with double digit goals. It's a bit...awful.

I feel like since Stepan has been taken off the top line, he seems to be a bit in flux. But I think that can happening when playing on a line with Rupp. When Cally comes back, the lines needa be sorted out. Someone has to sit. Question is, who?

What else is new?  "Hagelin has taken over the last two games, and the PP sucks."  Hagelin now has 11 ES and 2 PK goals and STILL this coach refuses to give him time!  I am damn tired of being THE ONLY PERSON IN THE WORLD to criticize this coach for his disgusting stupidity in not giving Hags PP time.  Can somebody in the media take some smelling salts about this, or are you little lambs afraid of this blustery, prideful coach?

@Robby Bonfire that's a great point right there

That call to Zuccarello was a terrible call. And I thought he played a good game as well.

The PP looked good even though it didn't score....

And I'm going to throw this one out there, I felt that Fedotenko played a really good game.

@Beckfan5 I agree about the power play, one was awful but the rest were pretty good, good movement and such, the canes power play also looked very good, maybe we can take something away from their method ie quick passes down low to draw the defense in towards the net.

that top line was insane, I hope he doesnt put the other lines into a slump.

Kevin, great call on Bickel last night.  He was all over the defensive zone.  He is a total force behind the net.

Maybe if things continue to go well we can bring back the GAG line (Ratelle, Gilbert and Hadfield for all you young'ns).

@TheNYRBlog For the top line what do you think about the Broadway Connection or Strike Force Line

Zucc also had a couple of really nice defensive plays, one of which led to the first goal...not to mention 2or 3 really good scoring chances...that penalty was really weak at best

Hagelin/Richards/Gaborik... Wow. We haven't had a top line that was a force all season and still was winning. Can't wait for Thursday!

Missing is your description of Dubinsky absolutely playing like SHIT. $4.2 mil for NOTHING on a consistent basis. He needs a change of scenery.

i thought that top line could've added a couple more..they were amazing, when callahan comes back hopefully the second line will be a little more threatening

Damn Stu!!  Hell of a line tonight.  Who'd have guessed he'd play 21 minutes in a game?  What a surprise he's been!!

@AnnoyingJoe  @AndyS I'd call that a fair assessment in terms of surprise.  But I think, Sauer is no doubt a better defenseman, if he'd only stay healthy.  Love Bickel's willingness in all facets of the game.

Thought there were some pretty weak calls tonight, Zucs penalty being one of them... Although he didnt have much ice time I thought he was noticeable in a positive way.  Hags-Gabby-Richie, what a line... Hopefully when Cally comes back he can add some spark to the second line that Dubi cannot provide.  Feeling pretty good about the team at this point.  With that said, Thursday is hugeee...

@ATCRyan The Coach said it was a stupid penalty however there have been plenty of those all season long so whatever — he was being the aggressor in that play so more power to 'em.

Richards and Gaborik vs Crosby and Malkin
