Prust Puts Contract Extension Talks on Hold

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

prustLarry Brooks at the New York Post reports that Brandon Prust, who is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, has placed discussions concerning an extension with the Rangers on hold...

"I just want to focus on playing. There will be time to take care of business after the playoffs."

...with how poor his line has been playing lately he might want to get that contract done soon before he loses too much money.

...either way, I'd be shocked if something doesn't get worked out.

Brooks also reports the Rangers will attempt to obtain Wisconsin junior defenseman Justin Schultz if the 43rd overall selection in the 2008 Entry Draft spurns Anaheim's offers and becomes a free agent on July 1.

Schultz, who played with Derek Stepan and Ryan McDonagh during his freshman year, is a Hobey Baker nominee.

Brooks adds that Schultz is a 6-foot-1, 185-pound defenseman much in the mold of McDonagh, but with a more developed offensive game.

...assuming Sauer's health will have a lot to do with how hard they pursue Schultz.
