The Latest In The (Snail) Race For Rick Nash

Written by Adam Herman on .

It's a new day, which means that it is time for your daily, "Rick Nash trade talks are going absolutely nowhere," update. From Blue Jackets' beat writer Aaron Portzline:

"The Blue Jackets are still trying to trade captain Rick Nash, but the last few days have been exceptionally quiet between Jackets GM Scott Howson and his potential trade partners... what once was a torrent of water has now slowed to a trickle.

'There are no deadlines,' Howson told The Dispatch today."

Portzline then gives us the, "one phone call can change everything" line that has more or less become the official motto of the Rick Nash Sweepstakes. Howson says there is no deadline, and while to some extent I am sure that's true, the reality is that an unhappy Rick Nash in the Columbus locker room and the media circus that will inevitably swarm the team is not a healthy situation. You have to think that eventually Howson will have to sacrifice some of his reportedly ridiculous demands. But then again, this is Scott Howson. So who knows what will happen.

At this point, I want Nash to start the season in Columbus, have it turn into a shit show, see Howson trade him for next to nothing (don't care to who), and see him get fired before the season is over... would rather see that than Nash in a Rangers jersey.

At least Howson stopped saying he "won't trade him for less than market value" because he might actually have to learn what market value means.

It's getting personal between Howson and Nash. Howson appears to want to punish Nash by keeping him and Nash being resentful of Howson, will eliminate more teams he wants to go to to cut down Howson's ability to procure better payers, prospects and draft picks. I really think Nash will be stuck in Columbus again until Howson is fired.

Wish they would just get Ryan already...more worth the price!
