"Apparently he's making tremendous progress. He's feeling a lot better. So you take Tim Erixon out of the mix, there's a hope or a thought that Sauer is better....there's a lot of hope that Michael Sauer can be the Michael Sauer of two years ago."
...wow!!!! This is almost as huge as the Nash trade. If Sauer can be back for the beginning of the regular season, the Rangers defense could go from one of the best in the NHL to THE best.
...couldn't be more excited to hear this.
In Shane Doan news, it sounds like he's whittled his group of 16 suitors down to five or six (Arizona Republic)...
"I say there are three or four that he's very serious about," Doan's agent Terry Bross said. "There's probably two more that he has a lot of interest in.
"I wouldn't be shocked if we had a decision next week."
H/T to Spector Hockey.
...i'd be shocked if the Rangers aren't one of those six teams. Despite Sather's rehabilitation the last few years, I'm still worried that he's going to overpay for Doan. Don't do it Glen!
...he's a third line player on this team, no need to pay him like a first line one.
And if you're not ready to say "I love you" to your girlfriend yet, just say this instead...
H/T to reader Matt P.
My wife sent me the let's go rangers thing the other day in an email. It was better than an I love you haha I couldn't hbe been prouder of her.
Only time will tell what kind of shape Sauer is in. I'd love it if he could play at some point this year. Even if he comes back strong and feeling good, I gotta think it's gonna take some time to get used to playing NHL hockey again. I'm rooting for him and I hope he's able to help the team this year and resume a healthy career.
In hindsight, it makes a lot of sense that Sather was willing to include Erixon in the trade package if he knew Sauer was progressing well. You have to figure at the time of the trade, Stralman wasn't signed either, so Erixon was probably being sold as a ready-to-make-the-jump prospect. ("Oh, sure Scott, if you don't take Erixon, he'll be in our starting line-up..." - Glen)
Still need to sign someone else for depth on D. I like Brett Clark who is a good shot blocking defenseman.
@AG_Blue If Staal is any example, its going to take a few months, but this defense is good enough to give him time to find his legs.
@AG_Blue Really all we need is for him to come back in early February. He will help with the playoff push and then be in pretty good game shape for the playoffs. I don't see an urgent need to get him into the lineup anytime before that.
@johnnyb3910 That Sather guy is pretty smooth.
@johndelfino1126 I guess Bickel would go back down to CT Whale to work on his weaknesses.
@KevinDeLury @johndelfino1126 They'd prob keep Bickel around for depth and tough games where he could kick some ass
