Spector adds that skating on the opposite side of a line with Rick Nash or Chris Kreider would be a natural fit for Doan.
"New York's situation also should be that much more appealing to Doan, knowing that his signing there might just be the last piece of a Stanley Cup puzzle."
Remaining in Phoenix is still Doan's top choice, but, according to Spector, he does not want to sign a multi-year deal with a team whose future remains uncertain beyond this coming season.
...i really think the acquisition of Nash has made the Rangers a very attractive option for Doan. If winning a Cup is a priority for him, I can't imagine he won't take a pay cut to join the Blueshirts.
...now I've got to disagree with Spector that Doan could be skating on a line with either Nash or Kreider. I see Doan more as a third line guy, maybe playing with Hagelin and Boyle. Unless of course, Stepan or Kreider struggle, then I could see Doan being given a spot in the top six.
Any news on the Evander Kane front? He was offered a deal a week ago but it still hasn't been signed?
Rangers re-sign Stralman for two-years: https://twitter.com/WharnsbyCBC/status/228592513164906497
I was initially against Doan due to his age, but with the Nash trade (which I agree with) I think we weakened our bottom six. I think if Doan is into being a great third liner, as opposed to an average 2nd liner, and accepts a 2yr deal it could work.
I think Doan is irrelevant to winning a cup. I would rather not have him. We got the big gun in Nash. Now let the youngsters do their work. Doan id slow and this is a fast team.
Nash without a doubt will be on the line wit Richards tho. And gaborik more likely then not because of his injury will join the 2nd line until torts mixes n matches, if you want to play the scenerio of getting doan my predicts after gaby returns is this. Nash-Richards-Cali Kireder-stepan-Gaborik Hags- Boyle-doan Could be wrong of course
I agree with Ivan, more likely then not gaborik and Nash will not play on the same line, especially with gaborik coming back from injury, expect to see Richards centering the first line with Nash and maybe krider or cally, doan if signed) we know how torts likes to move players around to find that chemistry) and when gaborik comes back will most likely play with stepan and cally/Krieder maybe hags , it seemed t me gaborik played extremely well with the speed of hags forechecking. I don't see Nash and gaby playing very much together on the same line except on the power play, and possibly late in the season. Then again no one knows what torts will do.
why is everyone putting nash and gaby on the same line? don't you think a more balanced offense would be better for us?
Hag Richards Gaborik
Nash Stephan Calli
Doan Boyle Krieder
something like that...
3 lines can score now... one is speed, two is power
just a thought
So IF Doan comes to the Rangers, that gives them Cally (Rangers C), Nash (Columbus C), Gaborik (Wild C), and Doan (Phoenix C) That's plethora of leadership on a team full of kids. How awesome would that be fore their collective developmen!!!!
BTW, just found out that Jeff Halpern was part of the deal that sent Richards to Dallas. Interesting tidbit. Maybe they'll be road roomies!
Am I the only person who remembers who is the Rangers head coach? We're talking about Torts here. Doan will be play on each of the 4 lines, possibly during the course of the same game.
At this point in his career, Doan is a 20 goal guy tops. Now I know Kreider will have some growing pain, but he has to be in top six. Callahan also.
I guess it doesn't matter with Torts behind the bench as I'm sure everyone will get a turn on the third line at some point. lol
Doan has to be a top 6 IMO. If they get him, this team will be unfair when Gab returns! Kevin I'm all for it if he takes a paycut!
I think if he signed he would 100% slide into Gaborik's spot until he's healthy and it actually helps Gaborik by not be rushed to return. As we know with Torts, Doan could end up on any line after Gaborik's return based on how he played to that point.
Doan is better suited for the second line and Callahan is better suited for the third line. Callahan doesn't need all the E.S. ice time he is getting. Callahan puts up a lot of points on the PP.
thought they offered him a 6yr deal a couple of days ago.
@ChefDave That's what I'm sayin'.
@TheKing I really disagree. Doan is a potential great fit on this team. Leader, goal scorer, character guy. But he only fits this team on a two year deal. Thomas and Miller and Fast need more development I think. Plus Pittsburgh and Philly won't have him if we do...
@Ranger Dave Why weren't the Rangers in on that? I'm pretty ANTI-Semin but for a one year deal when they have 15 mil in cap space... freakin-a
@MTopper319 I really disagree. I don't understand how you think Nash needs Richards more than Gaborik does. Gaborik is a sniper. Nash is a scorer. Richards with gaborik.
@gravey94 Gaborik was a captain but he's not in the same league leadershipwise as the other 3. But I agree with or without Doan I defy another team to say they have better leadership.
@KevinDeLury I agree Doan is a third line guy when Gaborik gets back and it gives us the beat top three lines in the league.
@TheRealNaks cally and Doan are both right wingers. Kreider and hagelin are left wingers. So I don't like those lines.
@TomUrtzNYR Callahan is a top six center. he sets the tone for the entire team with his forechecking and booming, offensive zone hits. He's an even-strength player all of the way. maybe their best even-strength player.
@TomUrtzNYR I'd love a 2nd/3rd line combo of Step, Kreids and Hags, and then Boyle, Doan and Cally. That top 9 rivals anyone in the league's, including flyers.
@AnnoyingJoe Your probably right, it just feels like a week. I want him in a Ranger jersey so bad! Talk about a great upgrade to take over Dubi's role.
@KevinDeLury Exactly, it could be a great depth signing, but if it's structured as an impact signing it could be very serious trouble.
@Ranger Dave I agree if you look at the 1994 cup team it had a ton of leadership guys and Doan fits that perfectly.
@GiveGartneraCup not a torts guy. See zherdev and wolski as why we don't want those types of players. I think he has a huge amount of talent just may not fit on this team.
@ivanricov Gaborik will be returning from injury and will not be 100% ready when he gets back on the ice right away. Also gaborik is a sniper/playmaker with alot of underrated speed, a crafty stick handler. Haglins hard drive to the boards and digging the pucks out doing the dirty work if you will compliments gaborik very well. It's part of the reaso. Gaby had 41 goals this past year. And with slight history between Richards and Nash, and the fact they both play a similar style gaborik will most likely not be playing along side Richards and Nash, gaby will be wingman to stepan and play along with hags, you wil, see torts play with the lines as he always does, but I put any amount of money on gaby playing on the2nd line, especially because Richards and Nash will have developed very important chemistry when gaby returns, you can except gaby to play on the pp along with riches Nash dz and Krieder/cally combo. We will see torts mix it up. But you will mainly see Richards n Nash playing together with glimpses of gaborik just to mix it up. Havering 3 30 goal or more scorers on one line is very nice to look at, although it's not as efficient as you might think.
yup, and they have the cap space. 6yr/29 mil. cheap. but he is only 21.
@KevinDeLury Im glad it didn't go to arbitration. Glad go have him back. It's amazing how young he is I always think he's older than he is!
Semin takes selfish o-zone penalties. The "not blending with torts" is annoying. Every Ranger last season rode the bench at one point in the season and I don't think any of them put up Semin numbers.
I'm saying Gaborik need Richard more the Nash does. I don't want them all on the same line. That's my point I know it's not efficient you're not even reading what I'm saying. Injury and torts aside, gaborik with Richards. Makes more sense. Gaborik needs a playmaker. He is a shooter. Nash is a power forward. It's pretty simple.
@GiveGartneraCup He did wear the C with the Wild. I'm not sure if it was temporary or not but I remember seeing it at some point.
