John Mitchell expected to sign 2 year deal with Colorado.— Darren Dreger (@DarrenDreger) July 1, 2012
Mitchell deal is worth $1.1 million per.
...while Mitchell is easily replaceable (Newbury?), he's a depth guy that all winning teams need to be successful.
...may also open up a spot for Bourque.
My thoughts on the Rangers Day 1 of free agency moves: http://www.nyrangersblog.com/2012-articles/july/not-a-good-day-for-the-rangers.html
What are people's thoughts on Ryan Suter? He's a playmaking defenseman with a two-way game who was only a $3.5 mil cap hit last year, but he will certainly command a higher salary with his next contract. His 46 points last season for Nashville would have been good enough for 5th on the Rangers and his 39 assists would have been second only to Brad Richards and by 2. Again, the Rangers are not mentioned to be among the favorites, but who wants him here?
Jonathan Audy-Marchessault to the Blue Jackets for an entry level contract. He had 64 points in 76 games with the Whale last year. Talented kid, but at 5'9" and 175 lbs. one wonders if he can make it in the big league.
Darren Dreger tweets that "Carolina and Detroit are in a strong competition with New York Rangers for Rick Nash. Nothing imminent. Canes said to be pushing hard."
Tons of bottom 6 forwards. Haley is a 2 year deal (we are gonna need AHL bodies if we bring up some rookies). Newbury is a 2 year deal. Only goonie staying with the big club is Asham.
Bottom 6 is done.
now lets sign some goal scorers. I don't think we will see that happen for at least a few days
Rangers sign career goon/minor leaguer Mike Haley.
This will be fun. Thanks slats
more upset the konopka went so quickly for so little money...we couldnt give him the same kinda deal mitchell got?
I think Mitchell is a good player. He can be another PA and if just given ice time will put up numbers
Guys, TSN reporting Konopka went to minnesota. I know they were wrong earlier about Mitchell, but I'm happy with this move. Not for nothing, I don't like konopka. Didn't think he would fit in NYR. He played dirty as hell against us in the playoffs. Too dirty for my liking. More room for Youngsters
who wouldn't want Suter? But who needs him? We have MDZ! wow I sound like beckfan5
Holy cow he's 29?? Thats way too much. His numbers were way inflated playing on a top line with Tavares and Moulson
@AG_Blue As expected. More of the same.
@_Jack -- where do you see that, Jack? How much money?
@_Jack -- Sather needs to give up his old school interest in these tough guys, they're a dying breed.
@_Jack Makes sense. Biron 2 more years means no pro action for Johnson. Good luck to him
@_Jack i know. I don't know what to think about that.
@TheKing 1.2 would be a gift
@TheKing 1.5 Max. 2.2 is crazy talk. I'd pay him the extra 250k or whatever. This is a guy with quotes like "it's only pain". Plus check out his girl: http://www.playerwives.com/nhl/new-york-rangers/brandon-prusts-girlfriend-marie-pier-morin/
Ray Whitney left Phoenix for the Stars. A couple weeks ago Visnovsky left Anaheim for the Islanders. Let's hope these are signs of both teams being sellers. Would love for us to get Ryan and Doan.
That leaves the Defense open. We re-signed Bickel (good for him) for 2 years. I wouldn't mind keeping Stralman. What kind of D-Men are left in the market? Don't expect Suter. Weber? I think missing out on Schultz means MDZ gets a couple more years. I think he can lock it down on D. (I think people forget it takes longer to develop the defensive side of D-Men in the NHL)
@_Jack --- yeah ... i can't help it, even against my better judgment i would kind of like to see a signing that makes a splash ...
@AG_Blue 4 years, 10 mil!
@brian2686 Rangers, the "classy" or-gan-eye-zation just took a hit by signing him.
More MDZ. Yuck.
@_Jack -- well, he said he wished management wanted him as much as the fans do -- not knowing the fans don't want him for $2.2 mil.
@AG_Blue True, true.
It was just weird that at the end of the season he said (i'm paraphrasing) that money wasn't on his mind or the number one priority or something.
I know it's their livelihood and all buut...then he goes on twitter quacks away about management not wanting him.
@_Jack -- can't blame him. that's probably the rest of Prust's career right there. He'll be 29 years old before the end of next season. It was now or never if he was going to get his money.
@_Jack -- well, good for Pruster. Sorry he ended up so close by, but at least he's outside our division.
