Brandon Prust Fighting Child Cancer, Hosting Charity Golf Tournament
I do not think there are many people that would dispute the idea that the sadly now former Rangers forward Brandon Prust is a good guy. But Prust is really going above and beyond this offseason in hosting a charity golf tournament named "Prusty4Kids" in Ontario. The tournament will feature the likes of Michael Del Zotto, Henrik Lundqvist, and Brad Richards (along with other NHL players) and will help raise money for Kicking Kids Cancer, a program that aims to help kids overcome cancer. Brandon also has a special friendship with a kid named Liam, who successfully battled Leukemia. From the article:
"I've done stuff with Children's Hospital since I've been with the Knights... I met Liam when I was with the [London] Knights on hospital visits and we became close. I'm still close to him and his family. It's always been an inspiration to me to go in a see these kids."
I don't wish to undermine any charitable action, because each one matters. But it's not a huge inconvenience for a moderately rich person to mail a check to a charity; Prust is going out of his way to set up this event himself. While these programs are relatively popular in the US, apparently this will be the first of its kind in Canada. So good for Prusty. Although he's not in the organization anymore, I'll continue to root for him so long as he remains a character guy on and off the ice.
Apparently they are still looking for sponsors and donations, so if you are the philanthropic type you can do do your part:
"Anyone interested in participating through donation or sponsorship can call Jill Osborne, event co-ordinator, at the foundation office, (519) 432-8564 ext. 122 or This email address is being protected from spambots.
