...i knew he wasn't skating, but didn't realize his off-ice activities were shutdown also. May not see Sauer until March.
As far as Marc Staal goes, John Tortorella told Leonard that the Rangers defenseman's play has been inconsistent at times, and he doesn't intend to rush him into major regular minutes.
However, Torts is confident that Staal will become a major factor this spring as far as increased minutes and a more prominent role.
...with how well the Rangers have been playing on defense there is absolutely no reason to force additional minutes on a guy who is still trying to find his game after missing all of camp and almost half the season.
Steve Zipay at Newsday has more from Torts on Staal here.
@thenyrblog Not happy about the Sauer news! :(
@thenyrblog grrrrrr indeed. I don't see Staal getting back to himself this season - Sauer's play has been superior
@thenyrblog for yrs to come than now and risk further hurting him
@thenyrblog the way I see it. If he's still having symptoms. Shut him down. Our D is fine. Emmy will be back soon and I'd rather have sauer
@thenyrblog Should I feel a little dirty looking at your new profile pic staring back at me?
@thenyrblog they should probably check his C1 and C2 vertebrae. Just sayin.
@thenyrblog Staal was supposed to be the major trade deadline acquisition, now that could be Sauer (or a few weeks after)
@claudcaruso Totally sucks.
@margicap Amazing how well this defense has held together without those two for almost all of the season so far.
@Cyandie Depends on what body part of yours I'm staring at.
@kevinbaumer "Staal was supposed to be the major trade deadline acquisition".............Say What???
@kevinbaumer Staal could be as well, as he's not playing like the All Star defenseman he really is just yet.
@thenyrblog Well played sir.
@potvinsuks As in, return from concussion and make a greater impact than any other move that could be made. Obv he returned sooner
@thenyrblog For sure. Sort of wonder if that's going to happen that season. Such a long absence could require long run of conditioning
@kevinbaumer Ohh okay...derrrr, sorry.
