Little Hope for Quick Resolution Between Time Warner & MSG

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

televisionRichard Sandomir at the New York Times reports that after 11 days of MSG being blacked out on Time Warner Cable, there appears to be little hope for a quick resolution between the two sides...

"The two sides agree on little in a nasty squabble that has focused on what Time Warner Cable will pay MSG to carry the two regional sports networks in a new contract. MSG says that the cable operator, the nation's second largest, has rejected all of its proposals for two years. Time Warner Cable says that MSG has twice reneged on a 6.5 percent rate increase and that its final demand was for a 53 percent boost."

Sandomir added on twitter that New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has been talking with both sides to hopefully workout a deal.

To help Time Warner customers who can't watch their Blueshirts, MSG & the Rangers will be hosting two viewing parties tonight starting at 7pm...

- Bling Pig, 233 East 14th Street, New York, NY

- Wolf's 111 Restaurant & Games, 111 Wolf Road, Albany NY

...while I appreciate the Rangers and MSG providing a place for deserted Rangers fans to watch the game, I'm sure most of them would rather be watching from the comforts of their living room or their neighborhood watering hole.

Every time I read an article like this I just get more frustrated with the situation. Another typical case of greed on the part of MSG and Time Warner and blacking out their fans. The viewing parties are great if you live in NYC but for anyone outside the city we are in the dark. Luckily I have the center ice package so I can at least watch the opposing teams broadcast of the games.

This whole thing is a joke!!! I am actually on TW side and believe MSG is to blame as they are probably trying to get that 50% increase.. Just liked they increased ticket prices for Knicks and Rangers fans due to their renevations... Unfortunately, I the missing games, I have kids and can't go out for every game and don't wont to... I will be looking into getting Verizon Fiios by the end of the month if this doesn't change by Jan 22..
Anyone have Verizon fios... Is it any good?

@BuzzOnBroad MSG owns the Rangers so they're part of the reason the games are blacked out. Refuse to praise.

@thenyrblog I am also getting annoyed by ranger players tweeting about it like we are supposed to believe it isnt msg prodding them to...

@thenyrblog that's true. I'm always a fan of viewing parties though, one of the cooler things in sports.
