nash2According to Steve Zipay at Newsday Rick Nash's contract ($7.8 million per year through 2018) will very likely negatively impact the Rangers for years to come.

Zipay notes that despite the addition of Nash's cap hit along with re-signing Brandon Prust, Michael Del Zotto and Martin Biron, adding Chris Kreider as well as needing to fill two forward and defensive spots the Rangers should barely be able to stay under the estimated $65 million cap next year.

However, Zipay wonders what the Rangers are going to do in 2013-14 when Derek Stepan, Carl Hagelin, Ryan McDonagh, Artem Anisimov and Michael Sauer are RFAs. As well as in 2014-15 when Henrik Lundqvist, Marian Gaborik, Ryan Callahan, Dan Girardi and Brian Boyle's deals are up.

...this scenario is all you need to know about why the Rangers should pass on Nash.

...the Rangers are in the midst of building something great, for them to blow it up for one player would be ridiculously counter-productive.

...i can't say it enough, stay the course Glen, stay the course.

Meanwhile, Mike Sieski at the Wall Street Journal warns that a bad trade deadline move could destroy the Rangers season.

Regarding trade rumors, Brad Richards tells Larry Brooks at he New York Post that it's good for the team to talk about them...

"As things heat up, it's probably a good idea to discuss it in the room," Brad Richards told The Post before last night's 3-0 triumph over the Bruins. "It can be a very difficult situation for a player to hear his name involved in trade rumors.

"It's a part of our business, and you have to learn how to deal with it and to trust things will work out for the best, but having gone through it twice, I know it affected me the first time [before going from Tampa Bay to Dallas at the 2008 deadline] and I know that it can have an impact on a player and a team."

...got to say, I'm shocked to hear the players talk about trade rumors. Thought they would just focus on playing and let the chips fall where they may. I actually like that they do, probably relieves a lot of stress and tension.

Brooks adds that beyond the original Dubinky, Kreider and a 1st round pick deal, Columbus GM Scott Howson is probably also asking about Derek Stepan, Ryan McDonagh, Artem Anisimov, Carl Hagelin and Michael Del Zotto.

...of course he is. Nash is an elite player and Howson needs to get maximum return to start his rebuild.

Finally, Aaron Portzline at the Columbus Dispatch reports that Nash is willing to waive his no trade clause and has submitted a list of no more than 10 teams he'd be willing to accept a trade to.
