Update, 1:55 p.m.:John Buccigross at ESPN reports that the Rangers players want Nash and that there's an 80% chance that Dubinsky is traded.
Buccigross then goes on to single out Brad Richards as a player who wants Nash badly.
...of course they want Nash. What team wouldn't? Richards would have about 70 assists playing alongside the Columbus sniper. Although I said the same thing about him playing alongside Gaborik, so you never know.
...i'm assuming the players would also say they want Dubinsky to stay. I'd be more interested in hearing whether the players want Nash if it meant losing Dubinsky and other parts as well as hampering the team cap-wise for the next five years.
...i do have to note that Buccigross was the first to report Staal was going to play in the Winter Classic so his word does hold some weight.
Original Post:
Larry Brooks at the New York Post reports that trading for Rick Nash and his $7.8 million cap hit will not only hamper the Rangers ability to re-sign key players, but to bring in highly skilled free agents...
"This means that acquiring Nash would effectively shut the door on the Rangers being able to bid on Ryan Suter or Zach Parise if either hits the open market this summer. This means that the Rangers would be out of the picture if and when Shea Weber becomes available.
This means that the Blueshirts would be out when Corey Perry, Ryan Getzlaf and Jordan Staal could become unrestricted free agents in 2013 and thus, might be available leading up to next season's deadline when the Rangers and their needs will be much easier to define."
Brooks adds that Chris Kreider will not be part of a deal for Nash but Brandon Dubinsky almost certainly would be.
...so Rangers fans you need to ask yourself, do you want Nash, no Dubinsky, no Parise and cap hell the next few years or Dubinsky, Parise and freedom to make deadline moves to help the Blueshirts win a Cup?
Andrew Gross at the Bergen Record reports (here and here) that scouts from the Anaheim Ducks and Columbus Blue Jackets were in attendance last night.
...no the Rangers aren't getting Bobby Ryan, the Ducks are in town playing the Devils tonight so I'm sure they took the opportunity to check out a team they'll be fighting for a playoff spot with in the Blackhawks. Rangers play Blue Jackets on Sunday, which I'm assuming is why their scouts were there as well.
