If Avery is claimed on re-entry, the Rangers would be hit with a $209,460 salary cap charge for the remainder of the season. If Avery were to go unclaimed, the Rangers would simply put him back on waivers and re-assign him to the AHL Whale after he clears.
Nick Kypreos at Sportsnet says the Flames had interest in Avery a month ago, but the Rangers were reluctant to place him on re-entry waivers. He wonders if the Blueshirts are having a change of heart now.
...would love to see Avery get out of the hell that is the CT Whale. What happened to him down there and with the organization has been criminal, but I'll give credit to Sather for doing the right thing here.
...good luck to Avery wherever he lands as long as it's not with an Eastern Conference team.
Im rather certain that capgeek has noted, many times, that a players salary cannot be split between more than 2 teams. If the Rangers were to place him on re-entry and he were claimed, the Rangers would be on the hook for Dallas' portion of his salary and the Flames would take on the Rangers current amount and Dallas would then be off the hook.
I cannot wait for him to move on to another team. Most overrated ranger in recent memory. Ranger fans embarassed themselves chanting his name at the beginning of the year. I know its already been said, but criminal?! I hope that was a joke bc he has no place in the NHL and is being paid millions of dollars. Sounds like good treatment to me
This is SO GREAT!! I've been waiting this for a long time and finally i thing it is going to happen!! HA HAA!! NHL will be better now, HU HA HU!!!
@TheNYRBlog why? Not like you would actually be coming back to the Rangers. Calgary apparently wants him.
Nevermind. I went and looked it up again myself and I had it incorrectly. If Avery were to be claimed on Re-entry then the breakdown would be...Dallas: 50%NY: 25%NewTeam: 25%
@drywpd Avery proved himself through success during the short time he was in the lineup this season. Nobody's embarrassed.
@TheNYRBlog really? I mean they aren't torturing the guy...they probably would have traded him if teams cared enough
