Leonard also cites the recent Ottawa Sun rumor that has Glen Sather interested in Rick Nash. The Sun also notes that Columbus wants Brandon Dubinsky, Chris Kreider and a No. 1 pick in return for Nash.
The Rangers play Columbus at MSG on Sunday.
...how funny would it be if the only reason the teams have been scouting each other is to prepare for Sunday's game. Although, with how bad Columbus is I refuse to believe they do advance work.
...as I've stated, no way I do this trade if Kreider is involved and even if he's not, that $7.8 million salary till 2018 is a killer.
Puck Daddy has more on the Rangers interest in Nash here.
This puts a knot in my gut. He's a great player with a MASSIVE contract that could spell the end of the Rangers rise before it even truly begins. Last year the Rangers squeaked in to the playoffs, and just because they've grown into a top tier team this year does not mean anything is guaranteed.
Even if Sather pulls off another magic trade and gives up nothing to get him, the contract that comes with him will make if very hard to resign key parts in the coming years. It's not JUST the dudes who get shipped to CLB it's the money we won't have to eventually resign Del Zotto, Prust, Boyle, Sauer, Hagelin, Kreider, Stepan.....
The Rangers are winning because they're playing greater than the sum of their parts. What does adding Nash do for this team that they need so badly as to mortgage the future? He's on the wrong end of a career year, and the Rangers are doing just fine so I don't see the need to do this.
I truly hope this doesn't happen.
7.18 million for a few years! Yikes... nvm, no trade.
At first I said I would consider Kreider for nash but now no way. thought he waas slightly cheaper.
I like how our team is. COnstantly growing players and our team is still one of the youngest. #1 as well of course
Even if Nash is one heck of a player, I dont wanna loose dubinsky and especially not kreider, he's a huge player and will be really good in a few years
I’m predicting Rangers vs. Canucks Stanley Cup Final. Imagine? Believe it.
