Gulitti adds that the two factors that probably played into this decision was no hit to the head or injury.
Clarkson will likely receive a warning call from Brendan Shanahan or a fine for the play
...i agree with the no suspension. Nothing malicious there. Just stupidity. Which is par for the course for Clarkson.
Here's video of the hit and ensuing fight...
Gulitti also mentions that Dainius Zubrus will also likely receive a warning call for his second period elbow on Carl Hagelin.
...i actually thought that Zubrus's elbow was much more dangerous. If that connects on Hagelin's chin he's definitely out with a concussion.
the whole game was bullshit, they started playing dirty at the end and throwing shoulders and clearly jumping at peoples heads. its insane that for little taps on other people they get suspended and the league lets some shit like this fly.
he should have gotten at least 1 game for that, when ovie did that he got 3 game why not clarkson i think its BS
thast ridiculous that Clarkson didnt get anything. he CLEARLY left his feet and charged at dubi who luckily saw it coming and got out of the way. brush up shanahan....
Just cuz he wasn't injured on the play doesn't mean no penalty should come of it. I think thats the problem. If u suspend him for even trying to injure then maybe that stops from actually hurting the next guy
Especially considering Zubrus tried to elbow Richards not 5 seconds before he elbows Hagelin. And I'm pretty sure that elbow targeted an hit Hagelin in the head. Just the fact that any player still thinks they can get away with that, and obviously they can, really shows how the league is not being consistent nor being clear about how they review illegal hits to the head.
nothing malicious there??? he jumped 3 feet in the air and stuck out his elbow in the vicinity of Dubie's head. he sure as hell wasnt doing a "who can jump higher!" contest....he was trying to lay Dubinsky out. thats malicious in my book. oh, no injury and he never actually made contact with his head? another excuse for the NHL to skimp out on actually punishing players. as long as these "fines" of $2500 keep going out ('couch change' as the boys at Lohud aptly call it), we'll keep hearing of season and potentially career ending concussions on a weekly or monthly basis. absolutely disgusting, both the NHL and dirty/stupid players ought to be ashamed
@TheNYRBlog how about zubrus elbow on richie earlier in shift that started pushing and shoving as they left the zone. Have a look.
By the way the hit looked in the video I don't feel that it warranted a suspension. Maybe a fine since he did lead with his elbow, left his feet and went in the direction of his head. But since he was unsuccessful I don't think he should be suspended.
I do, however, admire Dubinsky's courageousness for sticking up for himself and not taking that crap after a guy tries to injure you.
I dunno, sure looks malicious to me. He intentionally moved his arm/elbow AFTER he'd already jumped two feet off the ice to hit Dubi in the head. And given how many penalties he took last night (particularly what they were for) I guess I might have hoped for a little more than a fine... but whatever. At least he's not getting off scott-free. Glad Dubi came through unscathed too.
I have to disagree with you here. The only reason dubinsky wasn't knocked out cold was because he saw the hit coming. Otherwise that would've been a vicious hit to the head, which is what he was obviously INTENDING to do. He was about a foot off the ground, leading with his elbow!
@TheNYRBlog I agree 100% That elbow was thrown hard. Clarkson leaving his feet almost hurts himself more than the opposing player. #NYR
IMO. The intent to injure was there on Clarksons part and it should have warranted a suspension.
I hope the next time the Rangers play the Devils, Torts will put Scott in the linup and send him after Clarkson. it's time that that piece of s--t is being delt with and tought a lesson. I'd despised that M.F. since I first layed eyes on him. What a chicken, picks on only guys he can handle.
@fushone Yeah but Clarkson a foot off the ground is only up to Dubinsky's waist. lol
