Columbus Scouts Continue to Watch Rangers

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

Andrew Gross reports that for the second game in a row, Columbus sent scouts to watch the Rangers last night against the Capitals.

I posted yesterday that reportedly Columbus is asking Brandon Dubinsky, Chris Kreider and a 1st round pick for Rick Nash.

...just because Columbus is obviously interested in making a deal with the Rangers doesn't mean Sather is listening.

...Carter is a non-starter for me, but if Columbus is dangling Nash, Sather has to see how cheap he can get him for. If Sather can get Columbus to take Christian Thomas over Kreider I think the Rangers have to make the deal. Still concerned about his $7.8 million salary through 2018.

Gross adds that Montreal GM Pierre Gauthie and ex-Ducks coach Randy Carlyle, now scouting for Anaheim, where also in attendance.

...Bobby Ryan?

The Wall Street Journal has more on what the Rangers might do at the deadline.

Talk them out of Kreider, taking a different prospect (Miller or Thomas) and I'd do it. Nash with Richards feeding him could be a 40-50 goal guy. Not to mention there's plenty of players coming off the books and the Rangers can roll in some more youngsters.

Regardless of who the rumors are about, has there EVER been a team that traded for an upper eschelon talent at the deadline and gone on to win the Cup that year? Nash is a nice player for sure, but unless Sather can get him without disrupting the chemistry of the team, it has to be a no go. Everyone's down on Dubinsky because he's having a bad year, but I'm sure if you went into that locker room every one of his teammates would say how his value is not measured by points. I'm all for adding some additional Cup experience to this young team, but more in the way of role players. This team has built a hockey system, you can't just throw someone into that for a coule of weeks and expect them to shine.

Nash is a great player, but the lenght of his contract will be a real problem when the time to resign yongsters come. I'd rather go after Whitney, Selanne or even Eriksson. We probably will have Kreider for the next season, so no reason to dismantle a team who's winning and have lots of chemistry looking for that top 6 winger.

Slats can’t be so short sighted to see that one bad season from Dubi means toss him. Girardi wasn't so hot two years ago. MDZ was awful last year. Even Gabs was a stinker last season. He’s got to believe he’ll turn it around.

@BKS That's what I'm thinking (as most of us are), especially with his fat new contract.

Nash would be a great add but I think that it would take too much for the Rangers. What a bout Loui Eriksson? He has great chemistry with Brad Richards and the Stars want Dubi. His cap hit is only .5 mil more than Dubi's.

I would think it would be a lot cheaper to get him.

@thenyrblog I think giving up dubi would be a VERY Bad idea! He's having a bad yr offensively but defensively he's a beast goals will come

@thenyrblog ...with that said, wouldn't Dubi & Wolski's salary just about cover Nash's cap hit?
