"Everybody knows how good they are and what they represent," said coach Claude Julien of the Rangers. "But we're a team that likes to put the focus on ourselves rather than who we're playing.
"I'm not necessarily talking a must-win, but a must-good game is what we need," he said. "We need to be able to repeat what we did the last game. We could have lost that game without that late goal, and I would say we were on the right track because of the way we played. Same thing for tomorrow. We certainly have to play to win, but at the end of the game I'm going to look at how we played. And if we played well enough to win but didn't get the breaks, then our consistency is coming back."
Zdeno Chara added (via Daily News)...
"They're playing a very physical game," Chara said. "They don't have many differences from us."
...i love listening to other players and coaches discussing this Rangers team. Makes me proud to be a Blueshirts fan.
Meanwhile Ryan McDonagh doesn't expect any retaliation on Andrew Ference for his hit from behind during the teams' last meeting (via Daily News)...
"I don't think so. I think both teams realize it was a hit – first of all he got suspended for it. And I think both teams also realize it wasn't something that was malicious and done on purpose. And he understands after the fact that he should've maybe slowed down a little bit. But he didn't go in there trying to injure a player. I think the page has been turned on that – I would suspect it is. We certainly didn't like seeing a guy going down from our side of it as well, you don't like to see those injuries. We were glad to hear he was back playing the next game and that's the whole goal, to try and minimize the injuries. To me, that's certainly not the key point to tonight's game because a lot more at stake than that."
...i'm in agreement with McD here. This is too big of a game against too good of a team for the Rangers to do something stupid.
Dave Lozo at NHL.com has more on tonight's match-up.
