@thelink44 As a die hard Rangers fan you would know that they have a banner for Atlantic Division Champion from 94 as well.
@5holeblog yes and that means what exactly?....I think your missing my point. that banner shouldn't be there either, just because they won the Stanley cup that year doesn't make that banner more meaningful. Neither years' division championship should be hung in the rafters. For example, in college basketball the University of Kentucky only hangs National Championship banners because though other accomplishments like SEC championships or final four appearances might be nice, they aren't what matters in the end. They play to win National Championships. In the NHL, the Canadiens only hang Stanley Cup banners because that's all that's worth hanging. You play to win Stanley Cups, not to win division championships. Though it was an awesome and wonderful season, they didn't win the Stanley Cup and no banner should be hung.
Nothing wrong with milestone banners. 2011-12 was an amazing year and a deep playoff run considering we over-achieved by leaps and bounds. As a diehard ranger fan of 30 years I LOVE THIS. its PRIDE.
@TheNYRBlog Personally I think that banner should've been risen during Opening Night... Whenever that'll be.
@Cilluzzi1590 Disagree. Division Champions isn't a big enough accomplishment to raise banner. Should have waited to hang it tho.
As a die hard rangers fan, I don't like this at all...who cares about or raises Atlantic division champs banners...Stanley Cup banners are the only ones that belong in the rafters
@thelink44 I tend to agree with you. Especially when the Division standings are virtually meaningless in the current playoff format.
