No Atlantic Division Championship Banner Ceremony Planned

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

Earlier this month, I posted that the Rangers have hung a "2011-12 Atlantic Division" banner at MSG. Now Ken Belson and Jeff Klein at the New York Times tell us that despite the banner, the Rangers will not be having a banner raising ceremony if there's a season and that a team spokesman said the Blueshirts have "higher aspirations."

...that is great to hear. The only banner a team should be raising is a Stanley Cup one. Any other and all you're doing is celebrating losing.

Eh, I don't mind raising a banner for a division title. It's a sign of something accomplished; a sign of progress for the team. A symbol of doing something right, which is more than most teams can say. But there sure as hell shouldn't be a ceremony for it. It should be quietly raised, without acknowledgement of any kind.
