McIlrath Suspended Two Games
Written by Kevin DeLury on .
According to the AHL website, Dylan McIlrath has been suspended for two games as a consequence of an elbowing incident Thursday night vs. Bridgeport.
McIlrath will miss tonight's game at Springfield and Monday (Dec. 31) at Portland.
Here's video of the hit...
...man that hit was vicious. That guy is probably eating from a tube today.
...so much for getting to see him play during the live stream tonight.
...what you're seeing from McIlrath so far this season (injury and suspension) is something Rangers fans are going to have to get used to with him. When you play as physical and rugged as he does, those things are inevitable.
H/T to good friend of the blog Melissa over at Black and Blueshirts.

McIlrath's head was on a swivel after that hit because no matter clean or dirty — big hits in today's hockey (NHL) always stop the flow of the game because of instant retribution. Dude's guard was up.
@_Jack I totally noticed that also. He was definitely waiting to get jumped.
I loved the pick in the draft but since last year been having many 2nd thoughts. Injuries you cannot predict but his stupidity will not work in the NHL.
@TheNYRBlog not gonna lie I'm real happy we finally have a big hitter who throws his body
If I had no interest in McIlrath I'd love that fight. However if he has too many of that kind of brawl he could really get hurt. He took way too many big rights
@TheNYRBlog No way he should get a 2 game suspension. We saw that hit at ice-level in real time opposite angle and it wasn't really that bad
@WhalePack Wonder if suspension was due to injury. That said, from video, it looked like high elbow. Not intentional but looked high to me.
@angelzeyes2521 It was a high elbow, we even joked at the game how he was looking around after the hit for the ref to make the call.
@WhalePack LOL! I noticed that in the video. He needs to learn to keep elbow down...accidental is one thing but he may've known on this one
@WhalePack Was his elbow up? Tough to tell from the video. If it was, then he has to be suspended.
@TheNYRBlog Elbow definitely was up, noticed that right away and actually thought the ref made the right call, but 2 games?
@WhalePack @TheNYRBlog I don't like the call, but I understand it. The guy he hit was dumping the puck, while avoiding the linesman
@HockeyValkyria @thenyrblog It really was a nice hit and as I recall it was more of a forearm shot up high, very hard. What can ya do?
@TheNYRBlog @whalepack It's part of the game, whether they like it or not.. It's hockey..
@TheNYRBlog Yep, unfortunate for him, considering his first game back getting the rust off and then a suspension. Was a nice hit but too high
@TheNYRBlog After sum nhl seasoning...no 1 is goin to want to go on his side of the ice, cant wait to get em' in a blueshirt @NYRangers
@TheNYRBlog @scottyhockey That is a plus, and the WHL has the rep for being a rough league
@DundalkMurtagh @ScottyHockey Actually they haven't been. He plays such a physical game injuries are inevitable with him.
@TheNYRBlog @scottyhockey True, Torts won't put up with that? Are the injuries fighting related?
@DundalkMurtagh @ScottyHockey He was known as a head hunter in WHL, so not sure. Assuming he'll learn under Torts, who won't play him.
@TheNYRBlog like it matters? It isn't like he is missing anything. The Whale suck and the NHL is locked out.
@TheNYRBlog I don't know, any impact with that kid seems to result in a concussion ...
@ScottyHockey I bet you Fowler would have found a way to make an impact with the Rangers even in a lockout. ;)
@TheNYRBlog Thanks! Great point made on the post. But getting NYR fans to listen to that... lol
@TheNYRBlog I figured that was gonna happen. Too bad he didn’t land one of those long armed punches
@TheNYRBlog As long as he puts an elbow into Chris Neil's mouth, then I'd be satisfied with his career.
