Written by Kevin DeLury on .

McIlrath had been out since June with a dislocated knee.

...with all the doom and gloom due to the NHL lockout, it's nice to get some good news around here.

Love those people who don't attend the game and then claim the Whale suck. Nevermind that Bridgeport has a loaded roster of the Islander's top draft picks thanks to the Islanders living in the draft lottery for so long.

@TheProspectpark look, I know what you do. I read your site. You're very good and dedicated to what you do and you know way more than I do about our prospect. That being said, I watch the live updates, I look at the box score and to watch them struggle with some of the talent they have is hard to see. The last 3 games they've been beaten 11-3 combined. I want to see these kids to good and combined with the lockout it's frustrating.

@TheNYRBlog Good News. Let's hope he can finally start to deliver as a 1st round draft pick. (Fowler has 2 NHL seasons & 69 points already)

@Sioux_per_man Two totally different players, but yes he needs to start developing much quicker now.

@TheNYRBlog soon the players will become the reporters

@Mike_Rappaport They already are. Will be interesting to see how beat writers react to this change. Good for bloggers.

@TheNYRBlog good for bloggers, but it changes the whole landscape of journalism. it sucks for beat writers

@Mike_Rappaport well I don't think it being the AHL means it a smaller story. I would have a quote from McIlrath, Gernander and another.

Mike_Rappaport

@BlueShirtBlog @TheNYRBlog Do you consider McIlrath returning to the lineup a news story? Even if on a small scale because it's AHL

Mike_Rappaport
Mike_Rappaport

@BlueShirtBlog @TheNYRBlog but then there are some scenarios where guys are able to get 1-on-1. Like Lundqvist's article in the Post

@Mike_Rappaport @TheNYRBlog well editorials aren't news stories. a news story should NEVER have just one source.

Mike_Rappaport
Mike_Rappaport

@BlueShirtBlog @TheNYRBlog editorials are different from paper to paper, so even though everyone can use the quotes, not all of them do

Mike_Rappaport
Mike_Rappaport

@BlueShirtBlog @TheNYRBlog yes and no. usually in the papers after games there is a recap and then some other editorial. usually the (cont)

TheNYRBlog
TheNYRBlog

@Mike_Rappaport No doubt it would.

@Mike_Rappaport @TheNYRBlog can never have one-source stories! ha

@TheNYRBlog @Mike_Rappaport they're doing great things with HDTVs these days ha

@TheNYRBlog quotes from other NHL goalies about him that reflect that opinion, it would make my article that much stronger, in my opinion

Mike_Rappaport
Mike_Rappaport

@TheNYRBlog helps my story. For example, I could write my opinion about how Lundqvist is the best goalie in the league, but if I get some

Mike_Rappaport
Mike_Rappaport

@TheNYRBlog That's fair. For me, a lot of stuff I write is of the editorial style, and not necessarily breaking news, so access definitely

TheNYRBlog
TheNYRBlog

@Mike_Rappaport However, a couple of the guys I've brought on board would love that kind of access.

TheNYRBlog
TheNYRBlog

@Mike_Rappaport That's where I'm different. I'm older & becoming beat writers is not a goal of mine. I just like blogging about the Rangers.

@BlueShirtBlog @Mike_Rappaport No frustration on my end. Even if they allowed us to attend I probably wouldn't go. Very happy on my couch.

@TheNYRBlog and if I get to that point, exclusivity is huge.

@TheNYRBlog the dilemma for me is that I blog/write for lesser known sites now, but at the end of the day I would like to be where they are

@TheNYRBlog @Mike_Rappaport i understand the frustration, but NY is a HUGE media market. can't really open up the floor to all bloggers.

TheNYRBlog
TheNYRBlog

@Mike_Rappaport ...complain about us either b/c it's the Rangers who are keeping bloggers from attending practices, pregame & postgame.

TheNYRBlog
TheNYRBlog

@Mike_Rappaport No doubt. Those guys do all the legwork for us. Although they're also getting paid a lot more as well. They really can't...

Mike_Rappaport
Mike_Rappaport

@TheNYRBlog nothing will be in print. But at the same time, a lot of the stuff bloggers write about come use those publications as sources

TheNYRBlog
TheNYRBlog

@Mike_Rappaport Yep. They're going to have to find a way to conform or possibly even revolutionize a new way to report the news.

@TheNYRBlog When you said 'good news' I thought you were going to say Bettman had been hit by cab. You got my hopes up.
