Lots of Interest in Redden

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

Elliotte Friedman at CBC Sports reports that if the Rangers use any potential CBA amnesty clause to rid themselves of Wade Redden and his disastrous contract, there will be plenty of interest in the veteran defenseman...

"Don't know what the final salary will be. But if he's willing to be reasonable -- and you have to believe he will be -- he's going to have options. Lots of execs think he will be good value at a lower number."

...while the Rangers have been able to use loopholes in the previous CBA to lessen the impact of Redden's bloated contract, I'd love for the new agreement to put an end to that practice. Having teams actually suffer for those egregious decisions should absolutely cut down on the reckless spending NHL owners have seemingly become obsessed with.

...as far as Redden goes, while he should be ridiculed for not living up to his contract, he took his demotion like a man and earned my respect by helping develop players such as McDonagh, Sauer and Del Zotto in Hartford. For that reason, I hope he is able to catch on with another NHL team.

I hope it works out for the reasons many of us have discussed and which you highlight in your piece.
