Dolan Not Chosen to Attend Tuesday's Players/Owners Meeting
NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly announced the names of the owners who will be in attendance at the players/owners CBA meeting on Tuesday...
"We expect the following NHL owners to attend: Ron Burkle (Pittsburgh Penguins), Mark Chipman (Winnipeg Jets), Murray Edwards (Calgary Flames), Jeremy Jacobs (Boston Bruins), Larry Tanenbaum (Toronto Maple Leafs) and Jeff Vinik (Tampa Bay Lightning). We will make further details available when available and as appropriate."
Rangers owner James Dolan, who expressed his desire to attend the meeting, was obviously not chosen by the NHL to participate.
...and there you have it folks. One of the most powerful owners in the NHL, who helped end the NBA lockout last year, is denied access to this meeting despite wanting to join the talks. Guess Bettman is afraid to have an owner who might actually work to broker a deal attend this meeting.
According to Pro Hockey Talk, both the NHL and players were reportedly allowed to pick a staff member to be present at the meeting per the union and the owners chose Daly.
The names of the players attending have yet to be announced, but Steve Fehr is expected to be the designated NHLPA "staff" member present.
