Dolan Not Chosen to Attend Tuesday's Players/Owners Meeting

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly announced the names of the owners who will be in attendance at the players/owners CBA meeting on Tuesday...

"We expect the following NHL owners to attend: Ron Burkle (Pittsburgh Penguins), Mark Chipman (Winnipeg Jets), Murray Edwards (Calgary Flames), Jeremy Jacobs (Boston Bruins), Larry Tanenbaum (Toronto Maple Leafs) and Jeff Vinik (Tampa Bay Lightning). We will make further details available when available and as appropriate."

Rangers owner James Dolan, who expressed his desire to attend the meeting, was obviously not chosen by the NHL to participate.

...and there you have it folks. One of the most powerful owners in the NHL, who helped end the NBA lockout last year, is denied access to this meeting despite wanting to join the talks. Guess Bettman is afraid to have an owner who might actually work to broker a deal attend this meeting.

According to Pro Hockey Talk, both the NHL and players were reportedly allowed to pick a staff member to be present at the meeting per the union and the owners chose Daly.

The names of the players attending have yet to be announced, but Steve Fehr is expected to be the designated NHLPA "staff" member present.

How the heck do a bunch of junior owners get into an important meeting like this not to mention only two stable teams (Pens are mostly stable now, but were on the verge of moving before Crosby showed up). The whole thing smells like bad faith on the owners part.

Calgary? Winnipeg? Tampa bay? Are you kidding me??? Bettman - "let's pick the owners who's domains consist of some of the smallest fan bases in professional sports to represent our interests.". What's the matter Commish, Moose Jaw wasn't available? What the commish and the owners have done is take an already marginalized sport and have further marginalized it. The evening news sports, WFAN 20/20 SPORTS...they AIN'T talking about hockey. The Winter Classic, the one thing this league got right in a long time and was poised to become a Holiday tradition? Gone. Why? Because the league gives credence to owners who's city's pop. is in the low 6 figures and overall shortsightedness. Say what you want about Jimmy D, he knows the value of a buck and he knows that, if the fannies ain't in the seats, no one is making $. And say what you want about David Stern, but he isn't above giving it to shitdick owners (see: San Antonio). If Bettman had the balls to tell The Winnipeg s and Calgary s of the world to "Shut up! We're losing NBC". We wouldnt be in this pickle. Go Big Blue!

Bettman is a disgrace to all of sports, not just hockey.
