Thomas Has Good Shot to Make Rangers
Steve Zipay at Newsday feels that Christian Thomas has a good shot to make the Rangers at some point during the season.Zipay adds that JT Miller will likely start the season in Hartford.
Jim Cerny at nyrangers.com also touched on Thomas stating that the Rangers top prospect will get a look with Marian Gaborik out with a shoulder injury.
Thomas had 34g, 33a in 55 games last year after putting up 54g, 45a in 66 games during the 2010-11 season.
In five regular season games with the Whale last season Thomas had 1g, 1a. He was also scoreless in six Whale playoff games.
...if you've been reading this blog for a while, you know I'm not the biggest fan of Thomas. While his goal scoring prowess may make up for his lack of size in the OHL, he has yet to prove he can overcome it against NHL level talent (see last year's Traverse tourney & Rangers training camp).
...having said that, there was speculation after Traverse last year that Thomas may have suffered a concussion which could have led to his tough camp and slow start to the OHL season. I think this year's camp (if there is one) is huge for Thomas to prove he can play with the big boys. And I'm still not confident he can. Hope I'm wrong.
