Stan Fischler Thinks Ryan McDonagh, Michael Del Zotto Are Not One-Hit Wonders

Written by James Wrabel on .

Over at MSG's Maven's Ravin' column, hockey legend Stan Fischler takes a look at some metro-area hockey players and evaluates whether or not they're one-hit wonders. His list includes two Rangers.

His take on Ryan McDonagh...

If there's not a Norris Trophy in this guy's future, I don't know another defenseman with such potential. Then again, you never know. Perhaps the doubting side is what possessed the Canadiens to unload Ryan to the Rangers as part of the Scott Gomez deal.

Since then, the 23-year-old has re-defined "workhorse." He played all 82 games last season, averaging almost 27 minutes per contest and appeared totally indefatigable.

His take on Michael Del Zotto...

No question, the lad's skills are all there and that includes a solid shot from the point and the ability to quarterback the power play. But the coach still considers Michael a work in progress; as he should. Del Zotto's defensive game still betrays holes and his physique could use a bit more muscle.

Me? I believe that Michael has learned all the mental lessons and now it's a matter of focus and listening to the coach. If that's accomplished, he'll be in the upper echelon. If not, -- uh-oh!

  • Reading about what McDonagh has accomplished in his short career just excites me. He's got a bright, bright future ahead of him.
  • As for Del Zotto, it's a matter of maturity. He has to maintain his swagger, but learn to not make the same mistake over and over. He has the tools, now he has to develop the mental edge.

Honestly, why are we even concerning ourselves with what Stan "The Island" Fischler has to say. We all know DZ and McD are going to be studs.

Side note: Quality of writing has really suffered with the lack of articles stemming directly from Delury himself. Glaring grammatical errors that would be caught by any spell check, run on sentences and really poor syntax. Looks bad on the blog.

@Willhutch5 Never easy to write a blog. Also, sorry about the lack of posts I'm in Disney with the family.

@GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG  @Willhutch5 You apparently missed the point. I love this blog and everything Kevin does and of course love him to take time for the family! My point was such that I just have found the new writers to be less poignant than Delury. Also, there's a difference between grammar Nazi and reading news that is punctuated correctly. Apologies if I came off in the wrong manner. I do love the job Kevin does.
