Rangers to Match Sabres Ridiculous Doan Offer?
Written by Kevin DeLury on .
Ben Kuzma at the Vancouver Province reports that the Rangers are willing to match the four-year, $30 million offer the Buffalo Sabres have made to Shane Doan.Doan has said he will choose a team before the September 15th NHL lockout deadline.
...Kuzma gives no source for this rumor, so I'm not sure what to think.
...if true Sather has officially fallen off the wagon. And he was doing so well. Someone get him back in salary cap rehab.
...i still stand by my initial stance that the Rangers should walk unless Doan is willing to sign a two-year deal. No more.

No worries - we'll use him for a year and a half, then trade him to the Canadiens for Subban (a la Gomez for McDonagh)
Doan is not the answer especially when we need to sign Mcdonagh and Stepan next year....unless he's parting ways with one of these guys ....Doan is great faceoff guy thats it...
Taking on the Nash contract was necessary at any price to add much needed offense. Doan doesn't fall into that category but would be nice to have at the right price.
@Richie50 Agree. Sather would have made that deal whether there was CBA uncertainty or not.
It doesn't matter. There's going to be a salary rollback, or NO NHL. You can tell Sather knows this. Otherwise, he would have never taken that ridiculous Nash contract.
My guess is that someone from the Doan camp fed him this "info" so as to gain leverage through the media. Sather definitely is looking to win right now but I don't think at that expense.
I won't believe this till TSN reports it. Sorry...that contract is the complete opposite of what Sather has done so unless he knows another player will be out long term that we don't know about, there is no reason for him to become desperate and that's what that contract looks like.
@KevinDeLury Whoa, let's not go crazy. To quote someone "Giving Slats cap space, is like giving a teenager a bottle of Jack and car keys."
But that being said, there is no way I can see him give a 4 year deal at that cap. One year, I can see it, but 4? no way. My guess is 6 per TOPS
