Nash Will Not Wear a Letter

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

rangerscThis morning on Twitter, Jim Cerny of nyrangers.com was asked about the possibility of Rick Nash wearing a letter this season, and he responded by saying he expects the Rangers leadership to remain the same.

Nash was the captain for the Blue Jackets.

Ryan Callahan is the captain (Duh), while Brad Richards and Marc Staal are the alternates.

Dan Girardi wore an "A" while Staal was sidelines with post concussion symptoms during the first half of last season.

...no way Torts is changing leadership. That's not the way he rolls. Just look at last year. He could have easily left Girardi as alternate captain once Staal came back, but there Staal was wearing the "A" in the Winter Classic.

...a player doesn't have to wear a letter to be a leader on the team and I think Nash will definitely do his part on the ice and in the locker room.

I understand staal had a huge setback but wouldn't have been right if he just passed it on to girardi. I like staal and even tho he has been in the league for awhile and even with the concussion I still think he hasnt reached the ceiling. But with that said girardi is a stud and is the fuckin man when he is on the ice. He instills that fierce present when he is out there.

Not even a question on this.  I'm sure Nash himself would agree.

I think it was Dave Maloney who pointed out that Nash is likely best suited to be a Marian Hossa type of player for this team - an outstanding offensive force that gets to ride shotgun a bit.  He doesn't have to be "the guy" but rather just a very important piece.  With the forward group as currently constituted this on paper is a good marriage.

i like that he will not wear a letter.  let him focus on his job which is to put the puck in the net.  a lot.  and then some more.

Let Nash earn a letter if he wants it. Although, I think coming here and blending in with Richards, Gaborik, Lundqvist and Callahan will aide him. Less pressure=more production?

Long live Captain Cally!!!

Staal, richards, and calli are the 3 most important players on and of the ice. The people with letters are the people who earned em. They gave richards the A because it was avaiable after calli got the C from drury.

Besides, not a big deal at all. You don't need a letter on the front to let people know that you're a great player.

Let's just have a season first, we can worry about this nonsense later.

@BrandonBoyle i see your point but it's august and the news is slow.  the only news out there really is negative and it doesnt have to be re-tread so much.

Never was concerned about this issue. All three who wore letters are returning. Why change it?

Don't think Nash would have expected to wear the C, new team new start and like you say he can be a leader without a letter.
