Henrik Lundqvist Could Play In Sweden If Lockout Occurs

Written by Adam Herman on .

During the 2004-2005 lockout, NHL players had to figure out a plan B in order to earn a paycheck and stay in game shape. Many players opted to play in Europe for the season, and it was during this period that Henrik Lundqvist of Frölunda would make a name for himself, winning Sweden's equivalent of the Vezina AND Hart trophies.

It appears that, should a lockout occur, Lundqvist might return to where his career began; with Frölunda. According to the Swedish news source Expressen, Frölunda is prepared to offer Lundqvist a contract should an NHL lockout in fact occur. They also cite Erik Karlsson and Loui Eriksson as players Frolunda could target.

Obviously, a lockout would be devestating and Henrik wants to be spending this season helping New York win a Stanley Cup. But the decision is ultimately out of his hands. I'm sure, if the NHL hasn't reached an agreement, he'd love to spend a nostalgic season with Frölunda once again. We saw during the pre-season last year how he's more or less a god there.

Pretty obvious that Hank would play for Frölunda if there's a lock out, since he's lived there most of his life pre New York (and he still has a huge apartment in central Gothenburg where Frölunda plays). It would be fun to hear Hank's thoughts though, since the article over at Swedish Expressen only says that Frölunda wants Hank to play for them (which every other Swedish GM would say if they got the question on which goaltender they'd have play for their team in the occasion of a lock out).

No lockout. Never again. Never. Stop these shenanigans.

Let's not even discuss that now. You are way ahead of yourself

Fairly certain he has close to God status with NYC, too.  Dude's just the man.

Not so sure I like this. Knowing Rangers fans luck, Hank will hurt himself.
