It Might Be Time for Hagelin

hagelin4Steve Zipay at Blue Notes says if Mike Rupp needs to be IR'd (didn't skate yesterday after missing the home opener with knee injury), and if Erik Christensen or Wojtek Wolski doesn't work out in the top six, that it might be time for Carl Hagelin or Mats Zuccarello to be recalled from the CT Whale.

...while I'm all for bringing up Hagelin to give this team some much needed speed, I'd rather he stay down in Hartford if he's not going to get legitimate ice time. No need to staple him to the bench when he can continue to develop his game with the Whale.

Paul Doyle at Whale Tales has more on Hagelin's transition to the professional game which includes this quote from Whale head coach Ken Gernander...

"He's learning, he's progressing," Gernander said. "Every case is different, but sometimes players have a trait that separate them from everybody else. As you move up the ladder, that margin or that physical advantage becomes less and less significant. So you have to find other ways to bring other elements to your game. ... Carl likes to get out in front of plays and use his speed. Now he has to learn to be in the play and hit those pockets with timing and his speed."

I agree with giving Hagelin a shot, especially since many of the Rangers look like they are skating in mud, but only if Torts plans on giving him more than 47 seconds of ice time for the game.
