So apparently Hurricane's coach Paul Maurice is an idiot:
Greg Wyshynski at Puck Daddy has a great piece on whether the Rangers will be seeking retribution tonight against Eric Staal for his hit on brother Marc that has left the Rangers defenseman with a post concussion syndrome that has kept him from playing this season...
"Had it been a dirtier hit — some, like Larry Brooks of the Post, still view it as "a mean, high, albeit not penalized" check — perhaps the lust for retribution would be greater for the Rangers. But the circumstances being what they are in this brother-on-brother violence, it feels like there's an underlying remorse that will prevent any retribution."
Wyshynski says Rangers players don't seem intent on seeking retribution, while Eric Staal has suffered mightly this year some feel because of the guilt he has from the hit.
While Staal my not be on the receiving end of retribution tonight he will feel the wrath of the MSG crowd...
...because Eric and Marc are brothers and it seems the entire Rangers team knows how Eric has been suffering I'd be shocked to see anyone take a shot at him tonight. Although with Avery on the team you never know.
I agree with many below, no reason for retribution, period. And as for booing him? I'm against it. No one can make him feel any worse than he probably already does.
JUST WIN THE GAME! That'll make a hell of a statement.
E.Staal should only be booed because he's a member of the opposing team, not because of the unfortunate result of his hit. With that said, I'm sure there will be boos the first time he touches the puck, then the crowd will forget and be disinterested by the middle of the 2nd period.
I feel no one will specifically go after him, but I wouldnt be surprised if there are scrums after the play with eric on the ice. MSG will prob give it to him
normally i love retribution for anyone who hurts a Ranger but not now. Eric must feel so awful thats enough retribution
I don't think that it was a clean hit, but I don't think he tried to hurt him either. I can see retribution if it was not his brother and I think the whole team knows the family is suffering Getting 6 wins in a row will be more sweet than getting back at Eric. Avery would be foolish to waste any of his four minutes of ice time fighting eric.
Just win the game. The hit was clean (his head hitting the ice may have done the most damage) and Staal played after that hit. If Avery does go after him that'd be pretty dumb.
