Brooks adds that Derek Stepan and Ryan McDonagh are off limits.
Sean Gentile at The Sporting News adds that recent reports have said the struggling Ducks (two wins in their last 19 games) have made Ryan, who has scored more than 30 goals in each of his first three NHL seasons and totaled a career-best 71 points in 2010-11, available.
Ryan has 7g, 4a this season.
...i'd be shocked if the Rangers would be able to pull off this move without giving up either Stepan or McD as well as one of their recent first round picks (Kreider, McIlrath or Miller). Ryan is a stud and at just 24 years of age will command a huge return for the Ducks.
...this was my concern all along with acquiring Richards. When you're in win-now mode, you don't worry about emptying out your organization to bring in the "missing piece." Having said that, since the Rangers are in win-now mode they'd be stupid not to inquire about Ryan.
I think a package of Dubinsky (young forward under contract who actually costs less than Ryan), Tim Erixon (with Staal, Girardi, McDonagh, Sauer and Del Zotto, he is never gonna be more than a sixth defenseman) and a first rounder would get the job done. Ryan is 24 and has scored 30 goals twice so he's not an "over the hill win-now" acquisition. Adding Ryan this year and Kreider next year to this already talented squad would make us a perennial contender. Just wish we would have drafted Ryan instead of Jessiman, then we wouldn't have to give up anything for him.
I'm sorry but this is not a "win-now" philosophy to trade for Ryan. He's 24!!! If we don't give up Hank, Stall, Girardi, McD, Sauer, Cally, Stepan, Gabby, Richards, A.A., and Hagelin then id give up just about everything else to get him. Just simply spreading out the scoring it could be stepan+gabby, richards+ryan and Cally+A.A. For me throw in 2 first round picks because in the next two years where in this lineup would those guys fit in?
The trade would have to include Dubinsky, del Zotto and something else. The ducks want D, and they will want a young forward to replace Ryan, plus a first round pick or top prospect. I just don't see this as a fit for the rangers at this point. I agree with Andy that Krieder would probably be the third part of the deal. I don't know if I like it or not. Seems expensive. Erixon could replace DZ but I guess it really depends on wether Stall had made significant progress.
Its not like we would be getting a 30 something near the end of his career rent a player.Hes 24 and has 40+ goal potential and many years ahead of him.Id do it for the right price and Slats has a habit of fleecing struggling teams who are desperate to shake things up.
I don't like the idea of the win now philosophy but with the way they are playing what if you added this kid?
send them eminger, woywitka and a pick... maybe even try to sneak voros in there. id rather two whale kids as the 3rd D pairing then them two any day
There should be 29 teams calling Anaheim about Bobby Ryan, and the Rangers are no exception. Win-Now or not, that is a talent too good to not take a look at. And for all those worried about cap space; Mr. Sather has had no objection to stashing $$$ in Hartford. Flat and simply, the deal begins with Dubi and probably Kreider plus more.
I haven't been a real big fan of the "win now" philosophy. It's always exciting to get big names on your team like Gretzky, Lindros, Jagr, Richards, and Gaborik to name a few (or too many). Don't get me wrong, it's exciting to have those players on your team and having the hopes that they are going to win it this year, but there is just something special about this team. Watching special handshakes, the Broadway Hat being passed around, and the conversations on the bench; this year is something special. I hope there aren't any moves that are going to "mix up" the chemistry, or future chemistry.
Watching players like Callahan, Girardi, Anisimov, Staal, and Dubinsky work their way up and play like that have been is absolutely amazing. It makes me feel that this team is more of a family working towards the cup. I love this team and the chemistry I see. I want this group, team, family, to prosper and kick some PENGUINS ASS TONIGHT!!!!!
This isn't something new. GM's talk to each other all the time about different players and trades. But for some reason this one is gaining a lot of attention (Maybe because the Ducks suck, or because Ryan is from Jersey, or because of how good Ryan is).. I don't know but people are talking about. So questions were probably asked and that's why there is more noise behind it.
If they really wanted to go along with this trade, then Dubinsky would definitely have to go to the Ducks. Someone brought it up the other day and I figured the trade (If they get one done) would look something like this:
Dubinsky, Zuccarello, Valentenko (Or a pick), maybe EC (Or someone to free up some space. I would say Wolski but "reports" are that they don't want him). We would get Ryan and Foster in return.
I'm not saying that I would want this trade, or that I agree with it, but that's probably what it would look like...
The max I would trade is Wolski, Dubinsky and MDZ. Wouldn't trade our top 5 offensive forward plus 3 of our top D. Erixson can replace MDZ. I think they will be outbid. If those three aren't accepted by Anaheim, Rangers should move on. They've got some good talent developing in their system for the future.
sounds like a lot of hot air to me. first of all, why would the Ducks want to trade this guy? secondly, the rangers don't have the cap space (5.1M), so unless they take wolski and avery for him, i don't see it happening.
@mjm5346 The problem is the Rangers will have to give up of the players you mention (most likely Stepan or McD) and maybe Kreider as well. That's a lot.
@gravey94 Oh brooks..
Well, it IS the Post.
@AaronSweet I agree completely
@AaronSweet I'll have what he's having!
@lennynyr I would either add or substitute a 1st round pick for Ryan. He is a stud and we would be in great shape for 10 years with him on the team.
@cb1 you know to me Wolski, Avery and like MZA for Ryan would be a real sweet deal. btw just thought id say that ranger prospect jesper fasth injured his ankle today during a game.
@cb1 Good call on the cap space. But I'm assuming if the Rangers really want him they'll find a way to make it work.
@KevinDeLury I agree and i don't think it's likely given the list of no trade players I named. If Dubi, Kreider and/or Del Zotto plus a few draft picks can get it done i pull the trigger. However I doubt Del Zotto is the type of defenseman they are looking for
@ruddman yeah, the ducks aren't going to trade one of the best young players in the league for wolski, avery and MZA
@KevinDeLury oh and btw either way i like Bobby Ryan but i love this team
