Darren Dreger at TSN reports that last night a team talking with the Ducks about Ryan said based on asking price a coaching change was more likely.
...nice call by that team. I can only imagine how much the Ducks were asking from the Rangers. Must have started at Stepan, McD and a 1st.
Update, 7:45 a.m.:
Chris Botta at the New York Times hockey blog Slap Shot reports that other teams in the mix for Ryan include Toronto Maple Leafs, Florida Panthers, Carolina Hurricanes and Montreal Canadiens.
Botta adds that while the Flyers are reportedly out of the Ryan sweepstakes, you cannot dismiss their recent history of making big deals.
...makes sense that all the rumored teams are from the Eastern Conference. Can't imagine Ducks want to trade Ryan within the Conference.
Update, December 1st, 7:30 a.m.:
Accoring to TSN, late last night the Ducks fired head coach Randy Carlyle and hired former Washington coach Bruce Boudreau, who was dismissed by the Capitals just two days earlier.
...lots of people saying Carlyle firing means Ryan is off the market. Not sure why that is. Yes, it looks like Anaheim decided to change the coach instead of the team, but couldn't they still do both?
...should be interesting to hear what the rumor mill says today.
Last night the Ducks defeated the Canadiens 4-1 with Ryan picking up an assist.
Update, 10:57 p.m.:
Boruk adds in a tweet that we shouldn't assume the Rangers or any team would have to unload the farm for Ryan and that the team willing to part with 1st round picks could get him.
...wow, I am shocked to hear this. Get it done Glen. Win-now mode has officially changed me.
Update, 8:57 p.m.:
Larry Brooks reports that if Ryan is traded tonight he's not coming to New York.
Original Post, November 30th:
John Boruk at CSN Philadelphia reports that the Rangers are the frontrunners to land Bobby Ryan and that the deal with the Anaheim Ducks could be done by the end of the week.
Boruk adds that Anaheim GM Bob Murray reached out to the Flyers but they weren't willing to part with 20-year-old Brayden Schenn or the 2007 No. 2 overall pick James van Riemsdyk.
...with the Ducks asking the Flyers for Schenn or van Riemsdyk, i really don't see how the Rangers can get this done without giving up a Stepan or McD who are considered untouchable.
...only other person I can see the Ducks possibly being interested in is Dubinsky who has obviously struggled mightily this year. Maybe Dubi, Sauer and a first.
...Rangers are going so good right now, I would really hate to see them mess with the team's chemistry.
...let's hope that if it does go down Sather is able to pull off some more trade magic ala Gomez for McD.
I would do it for a couple first round picks and zucc or wolski but DON'T give up Dubi! Yea he is in a pretty big slump right now but he plays so hard and really exemplifies what the new York rangers are as a team! Plus with Carlyle getting fired it looks like Ryan might be off the table now.
So much to wonder about here. Some have speculated throughout the evening that MDZ could be part of a package. The Rangers have been down on him in the past and maybe they feel now is the time to move him while he is finally playing well and has more value. We also know Dubi has been a disappointment so far and not living up to his contract. Not sure what else would be included, but I will say this.... the Rangers could use more scoring than they have. Like everyone else, I'm thrilled with the play of Gaborik and Richards so far. However, look around the league and you'll see a number of players with lesser names that have as many (if not more) goals than they do. What's more, the PP still sucks overall. Sather may be thinking this is a way to help it. Who knows?
Gotta say that this only makes sense with slats, that being said I don't think torts would fly with losing the defender, we have what I feel like is a lot of depth, dubi maybe two of the kids at foward
Gotta love the "catch 22" trades. Either way I say Sather is a moron.
Why screw with a team who are finally getting their shit straight and winning games?
I'll be shocked if this really happens without us giving up a lot. Its hard to say no to a trade involving Ryan though.
Like we discussed last night, too much at steak involved in this trade.
I'm saying DON'T DO IT!!!
We're winning games and that's what matters now.
If the Ducks are trying to create cap space then trading Ryan could still be in the picture. Dubi wouldn't clear much space so it could just be a deal for prospects. For now we just have to wait and see
I'd do AA, MDZ and a 1st rounder for Ryan and a 2nd rounder.
side note: i guess there really isn't anything much to do in pittsburgh...snowed in for the winter in front of their computers?
oh well, I was on my way to bed over an hour ago, then had to wander in on this. Time to hit the sack. Don't break up my team Glen! I love this team right now. If you can work your magic, fine, I'll welcome Bobby Ryan with open arms.
NIght all,even you hillbilly Pens fans.
for the next few years i can see staal-girardi, mcD-sauer, DZ - Mcilrath.....erixon, valentenko and other D prospects...for the money to work dubi has to go...id go dubi, erixon, MZA and a 1st or second rounder...too much?
Hopefully Dubinsky isnt included in these talks but who knows. Im really hoping Wolski, Zuc, +1st rd pick will do the trick. Rangers already have so much depth in the farm system, giving up one 1st rounder is no big deal.
I'd like to be a fly on the wall listening to any conversations Sather and Torts are having about this. Wonder if they are on the same page.
@ncnyrfn Totally agree.
@cb1 bring that attitude today, figure round 9 when the pburgh public library opens and they all get access to a computer
@CinciMike Later man.
@Van_Ness_WVU Maybe take out the second rounder.
@ATCRyan No chance that gets it done. One or two of Dubi, Stepan, McD and Sauer have to be in the deal or Sather will have stolen Ryan.
@CinciMike i hope they show it in 24/7
@CinciMike No way they are.
@AnnoyingJoe Fun though.
didnt mean both, one or the other
With the way hes been pulling off these deals lately I wouldnt rule out anything @KevinDeLury
@KevinDeLury thats what I'm thinking
