Rangers Attempt to Change Gretzky's Mind on Winter Classic Alumni Game

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

gretzkyPierre LeBrun at ESPN.com reports that the Rangers have reached out to Wayne Gretzky in an effort to change his mind about participating the Winter Classic alumni game on December 30th in Philadelphia.

Gretzky told ESPN.com two weeks ago he didn't think he would play, citing previous family plans for the holidays.

But recently Glen Sather has reached out to "The Great One" in an attempt to pursuade him into playing...

"Glen called and we talked for 45 minutes," Gretzky told ESPN.com on Wednesday night. "I really respect the Rangers doing that. That's classy of Salts, Mike Keenan [who is coaching the Rangers' alumni team] and the Dolan family. So I told Glen I would think about it."

LeBrun doesn't expect Gretzky to change his mind.

...not sure why Gretzky is so against this. Unless the family plans are a wedding I'm sure they can be rescheduled. Adding "The Great One" to the mix will only make an already outstanding event that much better.

...wonder if HBO 24/7 is covering the drama of trying to get Gretzky to play in the game?

Gretzky thinks players at his age, not in their prime and at old age, can ruin their image. The image we as fans have of them, and that is something that fans do not want to see. I disagree, I am sure we all disagree. We WANT GRETZKY!
