The New York Rangers (10-3-3) defeated the New York Islanders (4-8-3) by the score of 4-2, tonight. For a boxscore and recap go to Yahoo! Sports.

...as you would have expected the Islanders gave the Rangers everything they had and I'm very impressed that the Blueshirts were able to hold off this very inspired team. Never easy for the Rangers on Long Island.

...tonight is why it's so important to have Avery on the Rangers. He knows how to play and excel in these type of games. Expect the same Avery against the Flyers, Pens and other top teams in the East.

...Richards is proving he is not only a big time player in the NHL, but a clutch one at that. Man, I might be eating some crow on this one. Very happily though.

...Rangers not only lose that game without Lundqvist they lose big. That diving save in the second period could be save of the year.

...looks like the Rangers are back to taking too many penalties.

...i know EC had two nice games last week, but can Torts please get him off the power play. He missed two lay-ups at the post during 5-on-3 in the second.

...great move by Torts early putting Richards back in between Cally and Dubi. Combined 2g, 2a and a +9. Much better line-up with that line together. Plus I felt Feds-Boyle-Avery was very effective as well.

...10 goals by Rangers defense so far. Who saw that coming?

...baffling that Gaborik hasn't found the back of the net the last two games with how well he's been playing.

...if the Rangers keep winning Stralman's never getting in the line-up.

...how awesome was the crowd tonight? They were in a full frenzy during the third period.

...off until Saturday when the Rangers visit Montreal.

QUOTES (via Blueshirts United):

Ryan Callahan...

"I thought we gutted it out. I thought we really stuck with it when there was a bunch of different momentum swings in the game, I thought. I thought we stayed pretty even-keeled and handled them well. Once again we found ourselves in the third period and tied, and we found a way to get that extra goal. And Brad (Richards) is the type guy who rises to the occasion, which he did again tonight."

Brad Richards...

"As you've seen it's different people every night, and that's an important thing because if you are relying on one guy or one line every night then eventually that might get dry. But we've been chipping in throughout the lineup, and that's a good sign. We're at seven now, and it's a good feeling. So we'll take it on the road to a great building in Montreal and try to make it eight in a row."

Henrik Lundqvist...

"I think (balance) is one of the reasons why we've been able to win seven in a row. You're not going to have one line be THE line every night, especially for seven games. We've had so many different guys step up at the right time, and it's just so important to have. Especially in a long year you need different guys to step up. And I think there are so many guys here that want to be that guy and score that goal."

Perhaps the Rangers are taking too many penalties, but I've said it before and I say again, too many gd whistles! Both teams got whistled for questionable calls and as a hockey fan I don't want to watch power plays and penalty kills all night. Again, it looks like we have unemployed NBA officials out there who are accustomed to officiating a sport where defense is illegal.

The best part of a Sean Avery Goal? The Sean Avery goal celebration.

@Rex_Havok ...and that was what? Pushing Boyle and his teammates away from him? His first goal he punched Woywitka.

Honestly, I think Prust's fight tonight was the biggest evidence we have seen that he is really banged up. He is a warrior, and probably my favorite player on the team for the effort he puts on the ice game after game, but he simply doesn't have the fire from last year. I can't imagine the injury it would take to put him out, but we need his grit and determination back to full strength.

@SirKengin , maybe a loss of fire, but I see it in his general play more than that fight. Martin is a tough dude and Prust handled him. Not that Sauer is a fighter, per se, but Martin kicked Sauer's ass a couple times last year.

@JohnSikulaIII moved the puck ok, had some looks. 5-on-3 had lots of good chances, couldnt score. why the hell is EC out there?? get boyle to plant his big rear end in front of the net!!!

@cb1 Definitely agree that Boyle or other big body needs to plant himself in front on the net. Goalies just look above/through Cally since he's more focused on getting deflection/receiving pass than screening goalie.

Explain the roughing the goalie penalty. Why is the O player getting called even though he's at a dead stop & the D player pushes him into the goalie?

Avery looking like old avery tonight! The power play needs to get better. I once again feel the way henny played tonight should have been a shut out, He usually comes up with that save, not undermining his play of course. Also the fact gabbi doesnt have like 2-5 goals in the past two games really confuses me.

theres someone called a goalie in the way. and i think the pass from arty on the 2 on 1 was a little off.
