Weiss had 21g, 28a with no offensive talent around him in Florida last year. And at 28 years of age he is just coming into his prime. Weiss has two years left on his contract that pays him $3.1 million per.
...to be honest, I would rather the Rangers look to trade for Weiss over signing Richards. I'd be willing to give up a prospect (Valentenko? Horak?) and a pick to bring in Weiss.
...with the Rangers in desperate need for a center as well as playmaking ability on the power play (Weiss had 16 pp assists last year), Weiss would be a real nice addition to the Rangers team next season.
Hey kevin just read that Andrew gross article about mdz. Maybe mdz listened to you finally as he talked about gearing up for next year and bringing back his "swagger". Worth a read and or post
I think Sather should go after Richards. How much do you guys think Callahan and Dubinski will demand? 3 mill per year I hope.
Weiss is a good second line center, and at 3.1M for the next two years, is a great deal. But there is no way I'd rather trade picks and prospects for Weiss than to sign Richards and give up nobody.
Richards is the offensive weapon the Rangers lack. Weiss is a nice complementary player. And floida is going to want more than mid-level prospect and a pick for their leading scorer.
Can we get richards and Weiss? Just a thought. We become serious contenders if we get both. Also think about who our centers would be Richards Weiss stepan Boyle. Now that's top notch. But that obviously means drury wolski feds and prospal are gone.
The trade they need is with Edmonton for 1 overall for Ryan nugent Hopkins. Edmonton needs players, that is a really bad team That needs players to compete while the kids grow up. Even Kabibulin couldn't keep them in games.
I disagree. Weiss has nice skill and potential, but we need a drop dead, undisputed number one center, which we have lacked for a while. Obviously if Richards signs somewhere else, and only then, do we go after Weiss.
Good idea..and agree that would be a good move; and perhaps better than Richards..Just look what happended to Nathan Horton after he left Florida...he has done fairly well....and he is playing in the finals...
@KingBadaBing Did see it. Too much BBQing this weekend so I didn't get a chance to post. Will be up tomorrow morning. Thanks for the heads-up.
