Rangers have decided to pass on getting involved with the Boogaard memorial patch/logo contest.
So it's on to Plan B. I'm thinking maybe we can put the logo on a t-shirt and sell it with the proceeds going to one of the charities Boogaard supported.
Update, May 17th, 12:26 p.m.:
I'm going to bump this post up every day as a reminder.
One thing that has come up is whether to keep the logo Rangers specific or to add some Minnesota Wild elements to it. Initially my thought was to keep it Rangers specific, but I've already received a few entries that includes elements from both teams and I really like them. So whatever you feel is appropriate send it along.
The entries I've received so far are amazing.
Update, 12:11 p.m.:
Just wanted to quickly answer a few questions that have come up. It will be one entry per person and the deadline to submit your entry will be May 30 which gives you two weeks.
After seeing what a wonderful job Minnesota Wild fans did organizing a memorial service for Derek Boogaard, I felt Rangers fans needed to do their part in honoring the Boogey Man.
A few months back reader Todd W. donated some authentic Rangers jerseys to the blog for me to use as prizes for various contests. One of them is a Boogaard Heritage jersey.
After Boogaard's passing, I really didn't want to do a hokey Twitter contest to give the jersey away, but I knew I wanted to do something to honor him. So I did what everyone does when they are looking for an answer these days. I took to Twitter.
And the great Scotty Hockey did not disappoint, as he come up with the outstanding idea for Rangers fans to use their immense talents to design a memorial patch or logo for Boogaard.
I have contacted the Rangers to see if they would be interested in getting involved as well. Would be pretty cool to have a fan created patch/logo for the Rangers to wear on their jerseys next year.
If the Rangers don't end up getting involved, I'll probably narrow the entries down to five or so based on comments then do a reader poll to determine the winner.
The reader who comes up with the best patch/logo will receive the Boogaard jersey as a thank you.
After the talent that was displayed during the banner contest last year, I am really excited to see what you guys can come up with.
If you have any questions or need any clarification, leave them in the comments section or e-mail me.
@CCCP Yes when I said photos I meant a full shot of him on the ice but a drawing or logo of him is fine.
I do not have the talent to create something for this, but I love the idea of fans designing something that I can buy to show my support. Great idea! I can't wait to see how it turns out.
I'm a minnesota Wild fan, and loved watching Boogaard for the years he was here. I have worked with the Wild before on marketing and design projects over the past few years and designed a neat logo that I hope Both Rangers and Wild fans will enjoy. Since he was with the Ranger last I made it to their colors and type theme, but threw in a few throwbacks to the wild within the design. I hope everyone enjoys when it goes up.
Thanks for this contest!
@skev303 Not a bad idea. Although b/c Boogey wasn't on the Wild last year I could see them hang a banner from the rafters in memory of Boogaard.
This should be fun. I'll definetly submit something. Im thinking it should be something simple. Maybe something having to do with his fighting as sad as that sounds as it could be the reason he died.
@erichan Yeah I'm real confident you guys will come up with some awesome tributes. I'd probably like to have all the entrants by May 30th.
