"Talk along Broadway is that the Rangers are considering a buyout of the final season of the five-year, $37.5 million pact Chris Drury signed as a free agent. If so, Drury, who will be 35 in August, will draw a total $3.34 million over the next two years and could sign anywhere as a free agent. Versatility and short money ($700,000?) could make him a valuable pickup in many cities, especially here if Mark Recchi retires"
...with Drury being a former standout at BU sounds like a match made in heaven. Although I thought the same thing about him and the Rangers so what do I know.
Speaking of Drury, Pierre LeBrun at ESPN.com shoots down the rumor that the Rangers captain will be sent down to the CT Whale next year.
...obviously the person who started that rumor hadn't done much research on Drury and his no movement clause.
...h/t to Spector's Hockey on both Drury stories.
And since we're on the subject of Ranger bad contracts, Arthur Staple at Newsday has a piece about Wade Redden's contract going back on the books after July 1st.
Don't see why Boston would want Drury. He's nowhere near as effective a scorer as Recchi and the guy is 5 years older than Dru. I also don't buy the leadership angle. I know it's important to have experienced guys and proven winners in the locker room to advise the young kids, but when the puck drops and your captain is playing 5 minutes a game, the young kids are better off learning from good ol trial and error. I'm a big Drury fan throughout his career but I think that emotional goal he scored against the devils in game 82 will be his biggest moment as a new York ranger. Hand the C to cally.
He's a waste of a roster spot. Don't care where he goes or if he gets bought out. I just don't want him on the bench when there could be somebody with something to prove every shift of every game out there.
Just get him out of new york...that's ill I ask...he's just dead weight. I wanted things to work out for him in ny, but that hasn't been the case.
If Boston wants Drury let's trade him for a crappy pick or the best we can get. One man's trash is another man's treasure. Although I don't know why someone would like Drury other than his leadership skills. I guess if Boston falls short for yet another cup then maybe they could use that.
