Well apparently, Todd Reynolds, vice president of Uptown Sports Management, which represents players such as Mike Fisher of the Nashville Predators, Jonathan Bernier of the Los Angeles Kings, Carlo Colaiacovo of the St. Louis Blues, Dustin Jeffrey of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Chris Neil of the Ottawa Senators, wasn't a big fan of Avery's endorsement as he sent out these scathing tweets (via Puck Daddy)...
Greg Wyshyski at Puck Daddy adds this on Reynolds who went on a Canadian radio program to defend himself after the tweets...
"Reynolds went on to say that when it comes to certain rights at the heart of the marriage equality debate — child custody, hospital visitation rights — he believes there are other alternatives beyond marriage that can satisfy those needs for same-sex couples."
...this is a hockey blog so I'm not going to get into the whole gay marriage debate, but what I don't like is someone hijacking an issue for personal gain. Reynolds wasn't asked to comment on the issue and he felt for some reason he needed to go out of his way to criticize Avery, who was asked to be a part of the campaign, for his beliefs. Hey jerk, why don't you just stay out of everyone elses business and worry about getting yourself more than five clients.
As a sign of support for Avery the Rangers tweeted out his video message in support of same sex marriage.
I was going to comment on how sad it is that Reynolds had to qualify his comments by saying he's not a bigot etc b/c of the ridiculous PC culture we live in: So you're against gay marriage, whoopie...but screw him, he's a self serving boob.
Excuse my language, but fuck Denis Potvin is all I have to say. His interview on XM radio this morning shows how classless he truly is.
Month by month we see examples of how Sean acts off the ice and I have so much respect for him as a Ranger and as a person. I hope that, even after his tenure in the NHL is through, we can keep him a part of the organization because he really has become an asset to this organization.
Avery is the straightest person on this planet so his open support for this is pretty eye opening. It's pretty tough not to get into the whole debate of gay marriage when talking about this article, but if I were Mike Fisher or any of those guys I would call it off with this guy. The player is supposed to get in trouble with his mouth not the agent. Also, this guy doesn't even have to meantion Avery at all. He could've just said a marriage is meant to be between a man and a woman and leave it at that.
i wonder if this guy still has these 5 clients. would you want someone like that to represent you? i mean, youve got to fire the guy for appearances alone, right? shameful.
@TheAveryRule What did Potvin say?
@KingBadaBing Also Fisher ended up having answer questions about this before Game 6 last night. Can't be too happy about that.
@erichan Everyone is entitled to their opinion which is what makes this county so great, but I have to question his motive here. This guy is using his work Twitter account to go on this rant. If that isn't taking advantage of a cause for your advantage I don't know what is. Awful.
@KevinDeLury Talking about Avery's stance on the issue, from Puck Daddy: "He's a very special case. He's a very special head case. It sounds to me it's very self serving."
What an ass. I'm all for everyone having their own opinions, but I don't think a personal attack on Avery's character for doing this is very becoming.
@TheAveryRule Unreal. That's the biggest problem with Reynolds also. It's not like he tweeted his opinion on the issue he went out of his way to criticize Avery.
