Redden has 8g, 30a in 59 games with the Whale this season.
Back in February, Jesse Spector at the Daily News reported that Redden would consider waiving the final three years and $16.5 million remaining on his contract for a chance to get back to the NHL.
...you know what's funny, there have been a number of pieces on how Redden has been adjusting in Hartford and the more I read about the guy the more I'm rooting for him to make it back. From not complaining once about the demotion to regularly taking his young Whale teammates out to dinner the guy has been a pros pro throughout this very tough situation. And can you really blame the guy for accepting a $39 million contract?
...having said that, man he sucked for the Rangers.
He rarely, and I mean RARELY showed passion and heart. He skated around with a "duuhhh" expression on his face. Just remember him never standing up for Hank when he would get run night after night. Don't miss him.
My standpoint on Reds has always been that he didn't really ever SUCK for the Rangers, he was just never worth the money. It's really tough to evaluate a player in a situation like that. I mean, he was getting superstar dollars, and was never gonna be a superstar. It was a tough spot to be in. I would be stoked to have him back (if he would resign for like 2 or 3 mill).
@CJ You'd be stoked? No way I'd want him back for even $750,000.
@KevinDeLury I thought he played a lot better under Torts than he ever did for Renney, but you are probably right 3 is too much.
If he could get around 20 points a year and play decent defense he would be a good signing for 1.5m. That is good for a 3rd pair dman. Maybe he wants to come back to the NHL with a contract that he actually deserves like 1-1.5m to take the stress off and to take the pressure off. Maybe he realizes life is short and money is not everything. He even said you can only play at the NHL level for so long maybe he realizes money is not everything and wants to enjoy it and maybe that will result in him playing better.
I think he would be worth 1.5m for a 1 year but like others say he never showed any passion. Does anyone know if he showed emotion and passion in Ottawa? I have to agree when he was on the Rangers he looked like he did not want to be there. Maybe he was really depressed about the way he was playing and it showed.
