If Hagelin completes his season before the CT Whale is eliminated from the playoffs, the plan would be for him to join the AHL club.
Hagelin would become eligible for unrestricted free agency this summer if he does not sign with the Rangers by Aug. 15, but according to Brooks that is not his intention.
Hagelin has 17g, 30a this season.
...you guys know how pumped I am for Hagelin so this is awesome news.
...should be an interesting camp next year with guys like Thomas, Hagelin and possibly McIlrath pushing for spots on the roster.
This kid is insane. sign him, now Slats. Dont fuck up. Send Hank with a contract in hand, wearing a t-shirt that says "Be Mine Carl"
there you go again kevin.
"...should be an interesting camp next year with guys like Thomas, Hagelin and possibly McIlrath pushing for spots on the roster."
they will be pushing for a spot on the Whale's roster, definitely NOT the rangers roster.
Just curious, why would it be to his advantage to sign with a team he's never played for rather than wait 3 months and have the option of signing with any team?
In Kevin's defense, he didn't say all three players are guaranteed to make the big club out of training camp. But there will be roster spots available. Thomas could be a 10 game try-out before they send him back to OHL. Other prospects could start in HFD and get called up mid-season. Either way, it's good for the regulars to get a little pressure from these young guys. Everyone will work a little bit harder over the summer to come to camp ready to play. And who knows, maybe Kreider will pull a McDonagh to turn pro this summer.
And can't a fan express excitement over Ranger prospects? When was the last time Rangers had this much talent in the pipeline?
@IcyCup Hagelin will be 23 by next camp so it's entirely possible he could land a spot with the big club.I would say no chance for Mcllrath next year though.
@IcyCup Agreed, but there will be spots open with Prospal and Fedotenko most likely gone next year.
No because if he does he misses all summer with the new team and miss all rookie camps thus hurting his chances of making the NHL next year. @RichA
Because Rangers are a team that will play their rookies? For a chance to play with the best Swedish goalie in the world? Hopefully Hagelin does sign with the Rangers despite previous talk that he won't. Would hate to see him go and sign with the Red Wings in late Aug.
Not sure it's to his advantage other than not being sure anyone else would be interested. But that's not the case here. @RichA
him staying is the smart move for him. has not dominated the level to move on. @KevinDeLury
@KCinMN98 I dont know. Could be. He said he used to be small, but was just a late bloomer. Maybe he grew a bit in the past year or two? The kid has rockets for skates though.
I dont see any of them making the team out of camp. Thomas is the intriguing one. McIlrath is definitely going back to the WHL. Hagelin for me gets the Zuke treatment of half a year in AHL. @KCinMN98
@KCinMN98 Thanks for having my back KC!!!
@mleetch352 Agreed,if I were a rookie I'd like the opportunity to make a name for myself in rookie camp. But I 'd MUCH rather have the chance to choose which team and city I'd rather play in.Hopefully for us he likes the Rangers and NYC so much that he doesn't test the market but I think at the very least he ends up costing us more than he normally would if he couldn't become a UFA.
@KCinMN98 I really hope he signs with the Rangers too.It just doesn't strike me as realistic that an obviously talented player would sign with ANY team if he had the opportunity to wait a few months and test the market first, thus possibly getting a few teams to bid against each other.Frankly,I'm surprised that he's allowed to be a UFA at the age of 21.
well there is being a free agent and then being a UFA. the rules on his contract would still be the same in terms of an entry level deal with a max base salary of 900K. someone could or force the Rangers to give him more in bonus money though. @RichA
@KCinMN98 actually I was wrong,he's 22 now and will turn 23 in late August.
