After this morning's optional, Fedotenko stayed on the ice to work with assistant Mike Sullivan and backup goalie Cam Talbot while Kris Newbury came off the ice with the rest of the group leading Gross to think the veteran winger will again be a scratch.
Andrew Gross tweets that Marc Staal (knee) did not attend this morning's optional skate and can't see how he plays tonight against Buffalo.
Ruslan Fedotenko (shoulder) did attend.
Also in attendence at the optional were Talbot, McCabe, Zuccarello, Sauer, Newbury, Fedotenko, Prust, McDonagh, Prospal & Anisimov.
...Staal did practice yesterday, however, he was unable to finish. Which is a little scary.
...luckily for the Rangers they have a crop of good young defensemen that are more than capable of picking up the slack. And with McCabe bringing in some veteran presence the Rangers now have the added luxury of giving Staal a few extra days.
Im worried that Staal is more injured than we've been led to believe (NHL teams not being forthcoming with injuries to their players?....nahhhh)
Also, I don't really think that with 18 games left and being 2 losses away from being on the outside looking in that we have any "luxury" at all when it comes to our best player. We need Staal out there and we need him out there NOW.
I gotta say, with the way McD and Sauer are playing, I'm not even that worried about losing Staal for a little while. This has to be the deepest the Rangers D has been in well over a decade. When you remember that McIlrath and Valentenko are developing with MDZ, I wonder: does anyone in the league have a better group of young defensemen right now?
@Scott Worried a little myself. With the way the young defense has stepped up I believe they do. Would rather Staal take an extra game off to make sure he's ready than push it and aggrevate the injury forcing him to miss an extended amount of time.
