This all may be moot, however, as Larry Brooks, who is usually on the pulse of this stuff, tweets that Richards is not coming to the Rangers.
...best thing I've heard all week.
...h/t to reader Kevin T.
Arthur Staple at Newsday reports that Brad Richards' agent, Pat Morris, emailed him that the Dallas center is unwilling to waive his NTC "at this time," though the Stars have asked him to do so.
This means that Richards' rights will not be traded before free agency begins on July 1st.
...not a big deal for the Rangers as it wasn't expected they were going to make a play for Richards' rights before free agency. Especially after losing two draft picks in the Erixon deal which leaves them without a second or third round pick in this year's draft.
Speaking of Richards, how about this pic of Sean Avery recruiting the All Star center down in Jamaica during Memorial Day weekend along with Aaron "The People's Champ" Voros...
...great work Avery, hopefully he talked Richards into taking less money and years. BTW, I thought all the Dallas Stars hated Avery?
...man do I miss the days of Avery and Voros running around Manhattan tweeting about all their escapades.
...h/t to reader Peter G. Can't believe I missed this when tweeted out after Memorial Day.
Brooks is a prophet so whatever he says goes. No, I think Richards wants to hear the offer EVERY team is willing to pitch. I have a feeling sather has been planning July 1st like eisenhower planned d-day so I'm not worried. And Richards can't go back to dallas anyway.
It's hard to know what Brooks' agenda is sometimes. A couple of weeks ago he had a big article proclaming how badly the Rangers' needed him. Now this. I'm not saying that Brooks in unrealiable or has no sources or anything like that, but he's an odd guy haha.
But I think it's clear as day at this point that Richards wants to be in Tampa. I'm fine with that to be honest, rather have a guy here who wants to be in NY from the get-go.
Hoping Brooks is right on this one. I really have no interest in dropping a shit ton of cash on a dude who doesn't seem to have any desire to play here. Let him finish out in Dallas. NEXT...
@iamthebest will he take a significant pay cut? That's the million dollar question he'll know on July 1st
@KingBadaBing Yeah he said as much in a Tampa paper. The thing is, does Tampa want him? he's a redundant piece on an already stellar offense. Tampa needs to focus their efforts into defense and goaltending but Yzerman is someone I could see talking Richards into taking 5-5.5 on a long term deal to be in tampa for the rest of his career, which he said he never wanted to leave.
@iamthebest @KingBadaBing there probably will be many in the Tampa organization that feel that they came so close this year that Richards will be the one that puts them over the top, but I agree with best, they need defense. St.Louis and Vinny aren't getting any younger tho and they may be willing to sell the farm for Richards for one more run.
