...this isn't really news as I haven't seen one report or statement from Kreider that has said otherwise. Although, I do think there will still be a big push from the organization to get him signed during prospects camp at the end of the month.
Brooks also notes that the Blueshirts are all but certain to file for salary arbitration against one of their eligible impending Group II free agents as a mechanism to trigger a second buyout period in August.
...so that means if the Rangers don't buyout Drury, Wolski or Avery during the June 15-30 buyout period it doesn't mean they still won't be gone.
Ryan Lambert at Puck Daddy takes a jab at Kreider:
"New York Rangers: It's official: Former first-round pick Chris Kreider will be returning to Boston College for his junior year, and not jumping to the pros. Having seen Kreider play many times, I think it's because he has learned that there are a lot of body checks thrown around in professional hockey, and he wants no part of anything like that."
Yeah, I'm not going to criticize Kreider for doing what feels comfortable. Would hate for him to have any animosity towards the Rangers for forcing him to sign a contract.
i respect kreiders decision to stay in college. not for the education, really, but for his developement as a player. its not like hes the salvation for the rangers future. he will spend (or SHOULD, anyways) the year in hartford anyways. at least one year. yes, the cupboard seems to be stocked but honestly, we are 2-3 years away form seeing it all come together into something special. us armchair GMs must be patient. this isnt NHL '11.
Come on Kreider we need ya buddy. Quit running' after co-eds. You can get all the girls you want with Avery in NYC.
I also hope the push to sign him doesn't make him resent the Ranger organization for trying to manipulate him out of his decision to stay at BC. But...money can do a lot of things.
@IcyCup It isnt NHL 11 but it's time for one of our prospects to make an impact for our team.
@ChristopherDecker yeah i would agree. but i would also think that it, at the VERY least, makes him feel wanted. seems like he has a good, solid grounding in terms of making tough choices. that's for sure.
@TomUrtzNYR agreed on ahl. but he will get hurt no matter what. they all do. except mess (moose) who got that late in his career shoulder injury.
@KingBadaBing you mean in AHL? i dont want to see one of our many good prospects come up to the bigs, skate with his head down and get PLASTERED.
