"We're still a ways apart. I don't think anything is going to happen over the next few days. We'll see what July 1 brings in terms of what the marketplace holds for him."
Bartlett adds that Callahan, an RFA, would be a real attractive target with his age for an offer sheet from another team.
...i love how the Rangers are playing hardball with their future Captain over probably $500,000 a year, but are ready to open the vault for Richards. That's got make Callahan feel really wanted.
...having said that I'm assuming most negotiations start "a ways apart" and they'll get this ironed out sooner rather than later. Right?
I think we should be hoping that callahan and dubinsky sign like Stall and Girardi did. 4-5 year deals worth 3.5-4 million per. I don't want these guys hitting ufa status anytime soon...
I know this is the agent doing his job for his client but as a fan...I hate it. SIGN HIM. That Brooks Laich deal in particular, along with the ridiculous deal Kopecky got, makes it very difficult to not give them two of them 4.5 a year. Yes both Cally and Dubi are restricted free agents but because the UFA market is so bare it does drive their price up.
Pretty much just status quo. This is what agents and GMs are suppose to do I wouldn't worry bout it.
@jasonshyer Good point. As much as I'm killing the Rangers above, no way either Cally nor Dubi deserve $4.5 per.
@iamthebest Saying they'll get it ironed out sooner rather than later is an overreaction? BTW, I missed you yesterday.
No the whole "Callahan getting offended" thing is an overreaction - he's an RFA. he has less rights than a UFA. Comparing his contract negotiations to Richards' is assinine.
And no worries Kev, I'm right here, getting AMPED for canada day.
Dreger on NHL yesterday saying he believes Richards is going to the Rangers and they will try to make it a 6.5 cap hit.
@iamthebest I tad bit. ;) $6.5 million would be a nice cap hit, I'm just still worried about length.
