Spezza, Stastny Plan B for Rangers
Steve Zipay at Newsday reports that people familiar with the Brad Richards situation say that if the Rangers are outbid for the former Dallas center they could try to make a deal for either Jason Spezza or Paul Stastny.Spezza, who had 21g, 36a last season, is under contract until 2015 at $7 million per year, while Stasny had 22g, 35a last year and is under contract until 2014 at $6.6 millioon per.
...while I hate both of those contracts, if I had to pick one I'd go with Stastny due to age and more cap friendly. Either way it will cost the Rangers a young NHL player as well as a top prospect.
Andrew Gross at the Bergen Record adds that because the incoming draft class is thin on difference-makers it could lead to a more active trade market.
Both Zipay and Gross also touch on the Rangers preparation leading up to Friday's draft.
